Tragic. No child should ever have to experience this. No adult, either. But the things we (society in general) do to our kids... tragic.

Horrible. Best wishes for the young lady.

Seems that you can't turn on the news without way too many stories like this being reported. I wonder if it's that there are more incidences or has the 24 hour news cycle we live in is simply getting the stories like his wider exposure.

Whatever it is.. prayers for the family and the young lady.

Steve,

I like to believe the later is true. We are so over saturated with news from far and wide. It really seems to pile up. I wish the little girl well. What an awful thing to deal with. My prayers will be with her.

This community is in shock, at best.

My prayers are with this little girl who so bravely reported this tragedy and survived this horrendous experience.

11-year-old healing after murder-suicide

February 18. 2008 12:25AM

The condition of the girl injured in Friday's murder-suicide is improving, hospital officials said yesterday.
Cassie Bystrack, 11, was listed in satisfactory condition at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center yesterday morning. On Friday, she had been listed as stable, and officials said she continued to improve Saturday.
Bystrack, a sixth-grader at Alton Central School, had been shot in the head. Her mother, Angela Bystrack, a former Alton police officer, killed her husband, Robert Bystrack, and wounded her daughter before committing suicide.
Senior Assistant Attorney General Jeff Strelzin said Saturday that relatives had joined the girl at the hospital.

Default website for Cassie

For anyone interested in donating to Cassie's future, the Town & School have opened a website at http://www.CaringforCassie.com with information about where to send donations. A fund for cash donations will be ready by Monday, but gift cards could be sent at any time.

The family's horses also need donations, and Cassie is very attached to her horses. Hay is most urgently needed - PM me if you have any to donate. Donations can also be made by calling or stopping by Alton Home & Lumber, 875-3900, on Rte 11 between Alton & Alton Bay. Reuben is generously donating as much hay and grain as he can, and will apply your donations to the horses' feed account.

For more information, email Kathy Currier, Victim Advocate, at advocate@alton.nh.gov .

Default so sad

That's such a shame. This poor girl will live with this going 'round in her head for the rest of her life. My thoughts and prayers are definitely with her.
What I love the most about NH is how people come together in a time of need to help others. I think it's wonderful the townfolk are doing what they can to help this girl keep her beloved horses - she needs to maintain whatever normalcy she can in such a terrible situation.

Default About Cassie

Good morning,
I plan to start sendig gift cards for Cassie, is it done through the link on your post?
Is there any word on how she is doing? I know Angela"s mom passed away and I've lost touch with her brother Anthony and sister BJ.
Such a tragedy, I'm not a religious person but I pray for Cassie!
I would love to hear from some one who knew Angela, could tell them stories from her life before Nw Hampshire.
Thank you
Paul Green

I suggest a call or directly to Kathy Currier, Victim Advocate, at 875-2167 or by email at advocate@alton.nh.gov. Kathy can answer the gift card question and may have info on how Cassie is doing. The horses were transported to CT about 3 weeks ago.

The http://www.caringForCassie.com site has addresses for gift cards for Cassie and the educational/medical fund which was set up for her long-term needs. They are still valid.
