Black Snout and Bad Moose were up for auction last sat. supposedly. I did notice Black Snout was listed for an April 18th auction again. I didn't notice if Bad Moose had the same sign/listing. My understanding is Canoe withdrew their bid when they heard it, BS, was going up to auction. Haven't heard anything else this week. I know Scott from Canoe reads and comments on here and hasn't said anything so who knows what's up. Black Snout is a nice location for the right type of business. Perhaps too much of the same thing in one area isn't a smart decision in these econonic times?

I noticed that Black Snout had a for-sale sign when I drove by it yesterday, and got a junk-mail notice about all of Nadia's equipment being auctioned as individual items, along with the building itself.
Last week I also noticed a "For Lease" sign on Willows Steak & Spirits at the Weirs. |

Sadly they are gone, and the building will soon be razed to make room for a TDBanknorth branch.

Here are my thoughts: Bad Moose- It was the only bar in the area (it was a bar that served some food as opposed to a restaurant like Canoe or Buckey's that has a bar) and had a huge bull's eye on it (Moultonborough PD, etc). Black Snout- Tough location, right in the middle of the Moultonborough gauntlet. Their food was decent but the place was loud even when not too busy. I would have spent less money on the sign and more on landscaping and interior appointments. Nadias- I don't know enough about the area or specifics to comment rationally! I did notice that the Moose and the Black Snout are being auctioned on the same day- if Scott doesn't get one he can get the other! |

It is my understanding that the neither the black snout or the Bad Moose have been up for aution yet. The first and only time is this weekend. I'm excited, we need change.
Here is what I think happened with the Bad Moose, (I know a lot of people that went there quite often and then stopped going) Unfortunately they were known for overserving. letting people drink way more than they should have. I think people liked not having that cut-off. then the MPD got on their case even more (as they should have) and the Owners were force to be more strict, which turned people off, plus they got rid of their main bartender, who everyone loved. I've noticed that ever since they did that the parking lot became very empty. But I think it's for the best, way to many people were getting hurt driving home. I myself don't enjoy the bar scene so I hope something else takes its place, like a tumble time or something fun for the kids in the area to do, it is right accross the street from the playground. just a thought. |

The Auction at Nadia's was yesterday. It was extremely well-attended by most of the restaurant owners in the area. When all was said and done, everything had found a new home.

decent crowd today
There was an auction open house at the Moose and the Snout today - decent pack of vehicles in attendance, and they seemed to go from one to the other en mass. I guess we'll see what Friday brings...

$$
Sold for $285,000, and nobody knows who bought it or what will happen to it.
That was the bad moose. Black Snout is under agreement, and will know something about that in a month. |

A friend of mine was at the moose auction and put a bid in. He only went as high as 250,000.00. I was hoping he would get it because he would have done really well, but when he told me that subway bought it I couldn't have been more dissapointed. I might be alone here but we already have enough sub places around here. Murphys, Jo Jo's, The Mug, Skelleys and they are all really good. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it won't be a subway.

Subway?
let's add the new Hometown Grocery, Heath's grocery store, Rob's, and Artie's to the list of places to get a sandwich. That has to be some per capita record of sandwich shops to year round residents.

forgot one
If I'm including Heath's, I have to include Winni Bay Gulls - their chicken salad on a parmesan bagel is to die for. Heck, you can get wraps and pizza at Dunkin Donuts.
We won't go hungry in this town any time soon. |
