Default Dock In!

We went out to Mink Island late yesterday afternoon from Shep Brown's. We are the boat you saw Fatlazyless!. We dropped the dock, put on the planks and had dinner on the dock. It was absolutely beautiful. It is finally Island Time.

Boy am I glad I'm not the only nut case watching ice melt. Totally unproductive day but a hell of a lot of fun.

Default Looking very ice-free here

When the winds shifted to West around noon and got enough muscle to overwhelm the lake breeze, two things happened: The temp shot up like crazy to 76.6 degrees (highest since Sept. 26) and the lake ice went bye-bye... down the lake somewhere.

Just posted some new lake sounds (recorded last night). When you visit the WeatherCam, be sure to click the lake sounds/videos button at the left. The new sounds are at the top of the list.

Default Flag up, dock down

We made a slow but pleasant trip over to Welch Island at 11:00 am today in the wife's Whaler picking-up several blocks of wood on the way. There were a few small patches of ice at the time. We got the seasonal dock down, no damage to the main dock/breakwater. We did not see damage to any breakwaters or cottages in our area.
Very pleasant lunch on the island at a nice 73 degrees there. The flag freshened with a gental wind shift to the west/north west at about 2:30 when we headed back. No ice in sight then. Too bad some had to work today.

And my guess was today at 2:47 pm. Looking at the web cams, I have to believe that ice out was today or will be very SOON !! Here in northern Ct. I was out in my kayak on my little lake and two adventurous young men were swimming. Ahh....spring !!!

If Emerson did not fly today is there a possibility at this time that it actually could be officially out according to the standards? Seems so to me based on what I have seen.

Default Flight Schedule?

Does anyone know if Emerson has a specific flight schedule around this time of year? I hope they know we are all waiting with baited breath for the official word! As for watching the ice melt instead of working....HOW COOL IS THAT! Hopefully, no company is doing a productivity study this week. I was up to the lake Sat-Mon Doing the old Wax on Wax off on "The Breeze". It never gets old or tiresome. Just the warm sunshine, the tunes playing and the Buffer in overdrive. Life is good.

Wave 'cuz I'll be waving back

Talking Imminent Ice-Out!

Wasn’t that nice of the Citizen to mention us here at Winnipesaukee.com!
Rattlesnake Guy mentioned that Silver Lake here is Hollis has been the two-week to Ice-Out indicator. Could be spot on again! I hope I win the contest!
It’s going to be great to be back at the lake! Wahoooooooo!!!!

Default T-storm?

Did anyone get that thunderstorm very early this morning? It wasn't a big storm, but it was good to hear the rain. I would think that a warm t-storm would speed things up a bit.

Default Ice Out today

Definately today; time depends on when Dave gets the bird in the air. I wonder if he checks out contest list so he can influence the winner.

No, I can assure you he does not. There are so many contests/pools at so many places, it would be impossible. FYI- Dave watches the ice very carefully, and schedules flights as needed to keep an eye on it for all of us. No one re-imburses him the $5.50/gallon fuel cost, and he graciously donates his time and expensive equipment. Thank you, Dave!

As it happens, Dave and I flew on an unrelated photo flight yesterday from 4-5:30 PM. There were still some flows that would have interfered with the various Mount runs, but they were breaking up fast. Last I knew he had a flight scheduled for 8AM today.

Default Unbelievable....That was easy

Someone must have hit the Staple's "Easy Button"

On Thursday of last week, I sent an email to someone who live on my lake (Mirror Lake) and asked them if I should bring the boat from Pennsylvania this week when we open the cottage. They told me we had no chance of using the boat. Saturday the email was "Ice 10' out from shore". Sunday...."BRING THE BOAT!" Got here late Tuesday night. Launched the boat Wednesday. Very little ice in the cove by Libby museum in the morning, gone by the afternoon.

Lots of limbs down on the property, more than I have ever seen. Thankfully our flat roof did not sustain any damage from the snow load. The 4" x 8" beams probably helped, but we were worrying.

What great weather and the greatest place on earth!!!

Default Ice out

Hate to toot my own horn (OK, maybe I don't), but when talk of ice out not occuring until May started last week, I posted that we would see ice out on the 24th or 25th of April. And, thankfully, we will. Seen it go really fast too many times before. I'll be heading up saturday morning for the inaugural boat cruise. Can't wait....

Default Wentworth

A posting last night on the Lake Wentworth site said ice out would be declared today.. Would this be the first time that Winnipesaukee went out first?

Sorry but I didn't want to bury the announcement 200 messages down in this thread.

The spreading of the announcement is very strange this year. The area media has seemed to have gone to sleep on this (or maybe just sleeping late). WMUR is the first site with an announcement and they are saying 8:00 AM this morning!

My information was directly from Dave Emerson's wife. I then confirmed it with the Lakes Region Association and they were in the process of distributing the announcement to the media. They said it was 8:00 PM last night!

I'm sure all this will be cleared up soon.

Default Yup!

I agree that ice out declaration deserves it's own space... always been that way always will!!!

Now let's get those boats in the water.. For me.. I just have to tow it to the marina and put it in.. too windy to go to the island today... but tomorrow for sure.. I have to work today anyway!!

See you all out there... let the season begin!
