Good afternoon, all!
What wonderful weather we are having -- hope everyone is getting a chance to enjoy. Can anybody recommend contractors to remove windows and install new ones? We are looking for a contractor that can remove and replace the frame as well. We first went to Lowe's for a quote -- negative. We did place a call out to a Laconia contractor more than a week ago and have not received a call back....which leads us to believe that the construction industry may not be as down as the analysts are claiming? If anybody can recommend contractors, we would surely appreciate it. We live in Gilford. Thank you! Gravy |

Gravy boat, it not clear whether your purchasing the windows and then having them installed. A lot of contractors will install only if buying from them.

Hi Dave M,
We can either purchase on our own or have the contractor purchase. Prefer to purchase/supply on our own if saves $$$. Thank you all! Gravy |

I just can't stress enough that the most important part of choosing a good contractor is checking on references, asking for testimonials, and looking at past performance BEFORE hiring... anyone can offer a low rate... but history repeats itself with too many jobs left unfinished or poorly done. Everyone has to start somewhere, but most local contractors should have a least a few references available for you to check on. We have seen just recently the problems left behind by a contractor from some distant location (Conway?) being hired by a local town to do a job with public $'s. The job was left unfinished, and the contractor had already been paid! At least if a local contractor had won the job, they might have been invested in the outcome!
It is worth your time and a little effort to save the headache of a monetary loss or a shoddy installation by checking rates AND reputation. There are some GREAT contractors listed in Winnipesaukee.com's Lake links, (and I will mention Kevin Getty and Jim Bobotas), who have testimonials and references worth checking in to. Lowes is a national industry, but the local contractor relies on his reputation. Let's support home town industry! |
