Pancake House at Heritage Farm, Sanbornton
Has anybody been to this place? New Hampshire Magazine had a great article in their March issue about these folks. Here's the link:

We go there to see the small petting zoo they have. The house is always packed with people eatting breakfast, but, when we went there once someone told us not to that supposedly they waited 20 mins and no one came over to take their order and they walked out. Thats another person's opinion but if you want my idea, I would go on a weekday ( note they are closed Sundays) but not on a weekend, as it is always crowded on a weekend. The prices are moderate to a little high but not over priced.

My family and I have been there a few times. It's not your typical "breakfast joint" but more of an "outing" or "experience." The service is sometimes very slow when they don't have much help. The person taking your order is also preparing it sometimes. Other times they seem to have their children working and they wait on you hand and foot. If you look inside you will see just a couple tables and if people are waiting you might walk away but there are several more table upstairs and we have never waited more than 10 minutes on a Saturday. They have something like 22 kinds of pancakes plus seasonal special flavors, they will customize you order, the hot chocolate is incredible, the family style is all you can eat, the bacon is thick and you can give you leftovers to the animals outback.
This time of year you can watch as they make maple syrup. In the fall you can walk their corn maze. Kids get to pet the animals and paly on the playground. You can get their ice cream at the Belknap Mall. I give the Heritage Farm 2 thumbs up. |

I have a few times and the food is fantastic - I highly recommend the orange cranberry pancakes. The sampler plate is a huge bargain for the amount of food you get.
I have to agree that the service can be slow sometimes, but those folks treat you like royalty!!! A very unique experience in this day, but worth it in my mind. A whole family running their place with integrity, a mind on quality, not quantity, an eye on their impact on the environment and a true dedication to each other is a truly rare gem. Go there knowing it may be a long while, enjoy the scenery in the barn and outside, be patient, an enjoy what may be the best, most unique, and friendly dining experience you can find. I have a very minimal supply of patience, but I found plenty to look at and good friends to converse with while I waited. |

MC07 is right on the money with this review. JimD's "It's not your typical "breakfast joint" but more of an "outing" or "experience." is perfect. The boss and I went here for the first time yesterday. The place is alot of fun and the food was wonderful. Samantha, "Sam", took the time to actually sit with us and go over the choices for pancakes and tell us about how they run their business. Almost everything you eat their is made from products produced right there at the farm. Fresh eggs, herb garden, fresh milk and their own maple syrup. Take the time to go to go thank the chickens after breakfast and take home a dozen fresh eggs for only a couple of bucks. Very cool. This is not fast food in any way. Sam told us on weekends the wait for a table can be an hour, and due to the fact that none of the food is "pre-prepared" cooking time may be up to 45 mins. You should know that the food is plentiful and served family style. They told us they have 4 dishwashers, and they all have "Two Legs,Two Arms and a Name". They use paper plates and plastic silverware, but it dosen't distract from the wonderful "feel" the place has. Take the time to read the NH Magazine article linked in the #1 post in this thread. Pick a nice sunny weekday morning, when your not in a hurry.. you'll love it. PS.. they do take reservations for "groups".
