Three items for consideration:

1.) The Lake is public - for all boaters.

2.) You should be able to stay with them - sailboats in general are not faster than powerboats.

Of course all you said is true, but it would be like biking along with a bunch of people walking - it would get old fast. I can't imagine going at idle speed for hours near a bunch of sailboats not knowing if I was in their next tack line.
