I spent 40 summers at Spindle Point, from a young boy into manhood. I remember some sort of land panic going on in the late 1950's. It seems there was the possibility that lake front property owners were afraid that the empty lots across the road, (with no lake acess) would be purchased by others who would use the lake front land to access the water in the owners absense. I think something similar happened in the next neighborhood called Pinnicle Park. Anyway the Spindle Point Civic Assoc. was formed, I assume to combat this from taking place.I know many residents at the time Purchased these lots so no one else could. Does anyone else remember this? I wonder if the Assoc. still exists? Iam sure most of the original members have passed away by now. If anyone can shed some light on this I would love to hear about!

Don't have any first hand knowledge, but it sounds believable. Say, there is another Spindle Point thread from June 2008 within this category which has about 50 posts and a lot of Spindle Point history & some photos.
For the record, the 10,000sf end property that includes the Spindle Point tower and a cottage sold last March for $750,000. It was originally listed in 2007 for 1,695, ![]() ![]() ![]() |
