Besides the "clues" given ('Moo!' and 'Pastoral Scene on Lake Winnipesaukee'), there must be a postmark showing the post office location. The postmark would even show tiny post offices such as Melvin Village had in 1955.

I think that's Doctor's Island to the left, and the scene is Sebago Lake.

I honestly have no idea where this photo was taken. I like the Rt. 109/Moultonboro/Tuftonboro idea only because I'm not familiar with that area and it doesn't look much like anything on this "end" of the lake. Postmark is from Wolfeboro.

Here's another one for you. Any ideas?

P.S. No Postmark

woodswalk; I'm really, really sorry...I'm not trying to be a scrooge or a grinch......but I haven't a clue as to the location of the postcard....that's why I'm enlisting the aid of the forumites!

Here's a photo of Robert's Cove Road from a similar angle....what do you think?

I've tried both angles with google earth flattened out. I think both have stuff going for them when you consider the age and height of trees back then on the isles and mainland.

The picture in question looks to me like it was taken at the Tuftonboro four corners, lookig towards Melvin Bay. Also on into Moultonboro.

I took a ride up that way in early December to try and verify the view but was unable to do so. The tree line and houses hides the view of the lake. I was kind of disappointed because I was so sure that was the location.

I think we need FlyGuy to take a picture while flying low over Tuftonboro four corners to help us out.

Hey BJAM - Have you read the PM I sent you?

Every time I click on this thread, it positions me around post #5. No other thread does that to me. I view threads in reverse post order.

It's the google maps insert, with a cursor field. The page automatically scrolls to that field.

For this response, I had to put Argie's Wife on the "Ignore" list to make the Google-Map application disappear.

It is a remarkable gift: the Society is planning the trails right now.

Ten years ago, when Jane Difley became President, I sent her a piece of my personally-produced cloisonné artwork for her office in congratulations. (So I know she's been President for at least ten years).

In the winter issue of "Forest Notes", appears this accolade:

Quote:
"This property is one of the finest acquisitions I’ve seen in my time at the Society,” said Forest Society President/Forester Jane Difley. 'Having been in the Morse family’s ownership for the past 135 years, the property comes to us with a rich family history and significant natural resources.'
http://www.spnhf.org/news/press-release.asp?id=194
Based on the Morse-gifted property photo of Lake Winnipesaukee in the Society's journal (page 24), the view IS spectacular! Fully half the lake from Diamond Island southeast appears in view—complementary to this one:

Every island can be identified without difficulty.

That Morse gift deserves its own thread, perhaps under "History".

So why can't we decide where on Lake Winnipesaukee this post card is from?

Is the "lump" in the foreground an island, or a shoreline prominence? If an island, which island?

A singularly-spectacular view of the entire northern Winnipesaukee region can be seen with a drive up Copps Hill Road; however, the view should be similar to Abenaki Tower's, first looking East, then West:

I'm looking, but I can't see it....

Default A Tale of Two Ridgelines

Having hiked around up on top of Pine Mt. (usually referred to as Alton Mt.) I can attest to the spectacular view of the lake from there. Many thanks to "Aunt Mary" for this spectacular gift!!

Yesterday after passing the Morse Farm and heading down the mountain I was struck by the view of the other side of the bay (the east side of Alton Bay). I recently posted about the proposed 42 lot subdivision planned over there. Although the permits are still not in place it appears that the developer has done about everything he can do to ready the land for development including road-building and lots of tree clearing....and what ever happened to the proposed cell phone tower?

Here's a shot taken by dcr from photopost looking NE from the top of Pine Mt.

"Looking NE over the northerly portion of Alton Bay to mountains of northern NH. L to R, the 4 islands seen are Parker, Ship, Little Mark and Moose"

Scroll up to the top of the screen, and in the top right you will see a box with "Welcome BJAM", under that time and date of your last visit and under that "Private Messages: Unread #, Total #". Click on Private Messages and that'll bring up any you have. Have fun, and welcome to the forum!

The perspective is foreshortened due to a telephoto lens, but isn't this the same spot?

The roadbed and treeline are higher and the stone wall never looked so straight (and squared), but based on the large boulder in the field, the relationship of the furthest two utility poles, (one remaining tilted to starboard), not much has changed after sixty years.

It's a nice perspective on the lake: I'll just have to go and get my own photo of it!

Roberts Cove Road nostalgia.

When I look closer, the views do look similar, but in the original photo, the two poles seem to be on the same side of the street, where in your photo, it looks like they are on oposite sides.

I believe the poles are on oposite sides. If you look past the left hand side of the car you can see the pole blending in with the trees. On the recent photo the second pole on the right (closest) in not in the photo.

Soon everyone will be able to enjoy the fantastic views from the Morse property. My Aunt Mary has donated a 431-acre reservation to the New Hampshire Forests. It is going to be named after my grandparents, Evelyn H. and Albert D. Morse Sr. Preserve. There is a beautiful view of Lake Winnipesaukee from the top of the Blueberry Hill. The Forest Society is still formulating its plan for the property, including public access logistics.

I am sure they are and it will take time and should, as there is some fantastic land there and one should be able to see it from the best locations. The next BIG project is to get the public to respect all of the land so that it will stay as close as possible to original beauty that it is now.
My thanks to Aunt Mary for her generosity.
