Oops, thank you, I keep forgetting that one -- and I don't work but 10 minutes from there......... (at the old hospital building in Portsmouth)...............What I relly would like to see, however, is a "real" Mexican restaurant by "real" Mexicans, like the one that actually was in Portsmouth a number of years ago -- owned by the Gamboas. Then there was one in Stratham in a plaza for awhile, they were also from Mexico, that place seemed to be doing well when all of a sudden the doors closed -- and this goes back about 5-6 years......

Las Pinatas in Laconia, located at the old train station, 9 Veterans Sq.
Ph 603-528-1405.
Haven't been there in a long time, been by it, just haven't stop to eat. Food was excellent, not your Pancho's or Margarita's chain type food, just real Mexican food done by real Mexican owners.

Ixtapa in the Fox Run Mall in Portsmouth, suggested by another poster, IS run by real mexicans. Their chile verde is excellent; the best I've had in years.

On the other hand, I had two bad experiences, two months apart, at Las Pinatas in Laconia, about 8 years ago, and have not been back since. Both times the food was WAY over salted; the second time so much so that I couldn't even eat the entree (and I was HUNGRY). However, some people appear to really like this place so I've been planning to try them one more time. I guess it is possible that I hit the two worst items on the menu, or the two worst days of the year, or something like that. I'll let you know if and when I give them a third try.

Didn't realize there were so many "SAU16" towns represented. Sorry to derail one more time but no one's mentioned Las Olas Taqueria yet - it's on Portsmouth ave right near Walgreens.

I don't have that many needs, but a better Chinese place than Lee Wah would be good. It's also tough that over in the Moultonborough area your choices of dining in the summer comes down to either driving far or waiting a long time.

.......... to SAU-16 North, lol! Isn't this a great place -- and thanks again, Don, for having us all as guests!

I think this is a great thread, kudos to VB for starting it. I find it interesting to observe that we've all leaned toward more ethnic but rather mainstream cuisines -- I haven't seen anybody say anything like vietnamese, or portuguese, or lebanese....

A Legal Seafood would do well here. They could also incorporate fresh water recipes like rainbow trout.

The Lakes Region also needs a decent Indian restaurant like you'll find in Portland. Saag, korma, nan, chutney etc.YUM! I've been to Shalimar's in Conway, but they are not as good as what you'll find in Portland.
