Current Lake Conditions

Hi guys,

Yep, saturday was quite a site. It was so nice early, we fished a while and launched some model rockets, and by the time we headed out for lunch at alton bay, things changed dramatically. By the time we hit the broads, it was more like jetski than snowmobile. But it was a very nice ride, not like the last slush event we went through some weeks ago. Maybe because it was mostly a thin water layer over a rough ice. Steering was good, both the spiked and non-spiked sleds did well. Benjamin, 9 yrs old on the polaris 340 loved it. And there were a lot of sleds out, I think everyone seemed to enjoy this anomaly, throwing up a huge rooster tail for a mile. After lunch we went to wolfboro and along the north shore then headed back towards gov island past steamboat and timber...

We had a group of sleds go by this morning around 5AM. We just got our fishing gear out, and the ice is mostly covered with a layer of water. With binoculars, I can see there are at least 2 trucks out around timber and welch island, and an occasional snowmobile. If we hadn't put the sleds on the trailer already, we'd probably go for a spin this AM.

The heavy cloud cover seems to be lifting, I can see a few small patches o blue in the north west. It did rain last nite, so that's contributed to the water cover on the ice.

Other than that group at 5AM, there's been no more snowmobiles past the house yet, just off in the distance towards the broads. Although from the ice i can hear augers and sleds towards wiers.

The sky really is brightening, I think it's going to be a good fishing day, maybe I'll let ben take a sled off the trailer, just for riding out front here.

There was so much standing water on the lake yesterday as I rode my snowmobile that I took it up to 60mph, just to see what it felt like to violate the 45MPH over open water law. Nasty yet great! It sure felt like I was on a waverunner and not a snowmobile. The ice is still super safe, except near rocks and of course, bubblers.
