I just had new cabinets put in my kitchen, but now need someone to repair part of the wall damaged when the old ones were removed. Does anyone know of someone who does this in the Gilford area?

Contact the person that carelessly installed your cabinets and damaged your walls and tell them to fix the sheetrock or the final payment remains in your pocket.
There is never an excuse for damaging wall board, flooring and the such when installing or removing cabinets. Granted it does happen, but you fix it before you leave so the customer is left with a great feeling of being taken care of. Everyone thinks that removing cabinets is just like on TV, WRONG, put the hammer away son and grab the screw gun and a flat bar and let me show how to handle this in a professional manner without giving the owner a headache. Not sure if that is what happened but you see it all to often. If you have already paid, still make the phone call and ask if they will fix an issue that they caused, if they won't, well there you go. At least you will know that they do or do not stand behind their work. But guessing from the fact that they left without fixing an issue that they caused, tells the story. Good luck. |

Easy there...We don't know who damaged the wall maybe the homeowner removed the Cabinets himself. Or possibly a smaller footprint with the new Cabinets which may leave some holes. Although if the footprint was different not sure why the installer didn't fix the exposed wall. But that's just it, we don't know.

To find a sheetrock repair person, try asking at the hardware or lumber store, or check with a neighbor. There are repairs and there are repairs and you want to make sure you match the skill of the repairman to the size of the job.

It was not my intention to call out the owner. I simply stated the process in which to proceed prior to paying additional money to have something repaired if it was a cause during installation or removal by a contractor. I did note in paragragh two that I was not sure if that is what happened but merely making a reference to what is often seen in these situations.
I wanted the owner to be aware that if someone else caused the damage to their home that that person should fix it. Not every contractor out there stands fully behind their work, so in part it was a quick lesson on how to deal with the situation. If the owner was the one doing the install then that is a different story and then my post could be disreguarded by the original poster, but it was not made clear in one direction or another. Being in the remodeling business myself I hear all to often of people that speak ill of contractors in general and contractors that perform work to the standards above get lumped in with contractors that are looking to maintain customer relationships that exend past the final payment. I appologize if my post came off as condescending or an attack, it was in no way geared in that direction, just trying to help someone save some money on the repair. I would like to thank jmen24 for some well-thought-out advice. It is obvious you spent some time trying to help me with this situation.
The cabinets were removed by the new cabinet providers, I should have mentioned that, and I didn't. I will see if they will repair the walls, but, as you mentioned, they may not. Then that leaves me with the continued need for someone to repair them. jmen24, if you are in this line of work, I wish I had started with you or someone with your ethics to begin with. Thank you for your help. |
