I thought I had seen a pizza place in the lakes region on food tv, but I could have read about it and just think I seen it on tv. I had looked it up and thought I bookmarked it, but didn't. I can't remember the name of it, and am hoping someone can help because I really wanted to try it. The prices were on the expensive side. There was a pepperoni pizza that had a LOT of pepperoni on it. The crust was not real thin. I can just picture the pizza, but am not very good at describing it. Thanks for any help.

Possibly the Pizza Barn in Ossipee? It gets rave reviews and has won awards. It definately is expensive. Personally I didn't think it was that good.

Great topic I would love to get opinions on good pizza places in the lakes region. I live in Moultonboro and the best we got is from a convienece store. I have to go to Meredith if I want a decent pizza from the Pizza Factory on Main Street.

The pizza is pretty good but small and a little on the expensive side. But it is the best I know of in the Moultonboro area.

If you are ever in the South Burlington, VT area and looking for a great pepperoni pizza try Zackary's on Williston Road. It is called the Pepperoniest Pizza

and definately my favorite in the New England area.

I can make it there in just a little over 2 hours from here and just the excuse I need for a Saturday drive.

Louis's Famous Pizza at the old Star Market plaza on rt 104.........so much pepperoni,you can't even see the cheese.Family owned and operated so there are never any screwups.

Loius's Famous Pizza is the olny place we get pizza. It's unreal.
And SAMIAM hit the nail on the head...the toppings are so plentiful, you can never see the cheese.
Sadly, the last couple of times in there, the woman who is always at the counter, told me they are really feeling the effects of Jackson Star closing.
Other than the liquor store, there is not much in that plaza to draw people in.

It was on the Phantom Gourmet and it it was The Pizza Barn.

Pizza Barn is pretty good. If you like a loaded pizza try their Farmers Daughter, excellent. As many times as I've been there I've never tried a regular pizza like the pepperoni. Must do that next time.
My fav however is Pat's in Orono, Maine followed by Sam and Joe's in Danvers , Mass.

I agree Lake. I like Louies too. I didn't eat pizza for years because I didn't like the tomato sauce. Louie's is not so sour, I like that a lot better. I like white pizza too.

We love Giuseppe's in Meredith at the Mill Falls Market Place. They will even deliver to the boat at the Meredith town docks. The have more traditional pizza's with the pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, etc. But we love the gourmet pizza's they have. Gourmet Pesto is the best. It has fried eggplant, tomato slices, roasted red peppers, Pine nuts, pesto sauce... Great atmosphere if you want to go inside also! But we like to bring our own cooler and sit on the boat watching the lake.

Biggest surprise to me was the great pizza at the Ellacoya Barn and Grille in Gilford. This is because they do not advertise themselves as a pizza place. It took several visits for me to get into their pizza due to the specials and other menu selections they offer. However, they have the best pizza around, by far!

Their other menu items that might distract you from the pizza, but if you keep your mind on the pizza, you will be very happy with your visit. The place is between Samoset and Ellacoya State Park on Route 11.

The pizza at the Pine Cone Cafe in the Pine View Lodge (just south of Melvin Village on Rt 109) is excellent. By the way, so is the rest of their food - breakfast, lunch and supper.

Hi, I am not a big fan of giving out negative feedback but last night we ordered from Anthony's Pizza at the Alton Circle Store for 2 Sicilian Meatlovers Pizzas, we have ordered them in the past. The first time we ordered them shortly after they openned they were great and cooked just right. The next time a couple months later we picked up another one and took it home to find it burnt so bad on the bottom you could not eat it. So last night we(us and another couple) called to order and specifically asked them to make sure it was not burnt on the bottom as our last one was. The girls ran down and picked up the pizzas and they were both burned dark brown to black and not edible. Returning them only got a response that "that is the way a Sicilian Pizza is supposed to be" and we disagreed and ended up paying 17.00 each for burnt Pizza.
Sorry if this does not seem justified to rant about but we were not happy.

Edit: We received a call from the owner or manager of Anthony's this morning and he said after looking at the crust of our returned pizzas he said our complaint was justified and refunded our money. He said the employee overcooked them. So please excuse my above rant, I guess I jumped the gun.

Anyone remember The Foxy Johnny B. the pizza there was fantastic and as a kid I liked sitting at the round wooden wheel tables in the lounge before the entertainment came in. I forget what town but know we had to down around the Alton circle.

As a Gluten Intolerant, the best out of the home pizza destination for me is Rafferty's in North Conway. Gluten Free pizza AND Gluten Free BEER. I can finally go to a bar!

Foxy Johnny's was in New Durham, run by the (now X) Fire Chief.

That was very decent of the owner. You had a right to be angry. In a former business my family owned we often had trouble with our help (we could not be there 24/7) so I understand how that goes

Thanks for that info. It explains why there was all those fire dept patches and paraphanelia. Always enjoyed that place and remember getting my first electric fence shock trying to pet the horses.

You are welcome. His name was Rod N. (if I remember right), was a full and long time Chief in Mass for... ummm... Weymouth? Retired up here and ran FJ for decades and was the volunteer (and very competent) chief for ND.

We have been going to the new restaurant across from Funspot recently that makes brick oven pizza and it is really good. Don't recall the name of the place but it is right on Rt 3 where JT's Barbeque used to be. Try the Buffalo Chicken Pizza.

Has anyone tried Rossi's Pizza on rt 104 in Meredith, across from Dunkin Donuts? I must have driven by this place 100 times, and never noticed it was there. Stopped in for the first time last week, and I must say the pizza was absolutley fantastic! Thin crust, lots of cheese, and Loaded with toppings. Reminds me of the pizza I used to get in the North End years ago. Surprised no one else has mentioned the place.

Besides being great pizza, it's surprisingly inexpensive compared to what you'd expect to pay. I usually get a large, 4-toppings pie and it comes to something like $14 and change.

We gave it a shot tonight. The pizza is mediocre and the prices are high. A small pizza ranges from $7 - $13. Service was good, but the food is strictly low brow.

I have a different opinion than Jetskier. First the small pizza's that I believe Jetskier is reffering to are for the specialty pizza's. Those are always more than the typical 1 or 2 topping pizzas. The typical 1 and 2 topping pizza's are priced less. Second, in my opinion the pizza was very good. Third, its a pizza joint, its not suppose to be highbrow. Anyone going there should know its not O's or Canoe.

Hi Taz,

While I respect your opinion, the quality of the pizza was (IMHO) not as good as Papa Ginos etc... The specialty pizza with a few toppings (11") at $13 is high (IMHO). In my opinion, the pizza was doughy and bland... I was not trying to compare Heat to Canoe, but it is not the same quality as Papa Ginos and that was the intent of the low brow comment. I am not a food snob, but I know what I like and I have no affiliation to any restaurants in the area (I am in high tech). If I get a decent meal, good service and reasonable value, I will post that. If we go somewhere and it is dissappointing, I will also post that. No agendas.

I have to weigh in here. Driving home from work a few weeks ago I ordered a small sausage and mushroom pizza from Heat. I wasn't THAT hungry yet, and had planned on taking it home to Gilford and reheating it a short time later. However...after picking it up and opening the box, I just had to try a piece right there in the parking lot. The crust was exactly what you'd expect for a perfect hand-thrown pizza: bubbly, crackly and nicely browned (even some black, which I like). The sausage was also great and the mushrooms were a cut above the usual small slices you get at most places (I really like Papa Gino's also, by the way). The cheese was nicely browned here and there, and the sauce was a bit different but good.

Tonight we have about 8 people coming over for a family gathering and rather than go to Papa's we're going to trust Heat for our pizza needs. I'll let you know if tonight's experience changes my opinion in any significant way.

Sorry Jetskier but I must disagree. I would not feed Papa Ginos to my dog. Heat pizza is much better than Papa Ginos and the prices are in line with other pizza restaurants serving a similar menu.

We must have eaten at different restaurants. The Heat pizza was not doughy the night I was there. If anything it was on the thin side.

Said it before, but worth repeating...
If you are getting pizza "to go" in the Meredith area, it should begin and end with Louis Famous Pizza in the old Jackson Star plaza. Unreal. One tip however...ask for it to be over cooked a bit. Even better when a bit crispy.

Louis' in Meredith in the what used to be Star Market Mall is the BEST around....hands down. No employees to screw up your order...if the doors are open, the owners are there.

If you’re ever in Dover, NH, try Lefesta Brick & Brew. They have New York hand-tossed, deep dish Sicilian and thin-crust brick oven Pizza.

For the lakes region area, I like Pine Cone Café pizza (I don’t even mind if Marge Simpson waits on me).

In the Lakes region, LOUIE'S! Hands-down. Have you tried "Louie's Special"? It's hard to eat more than one slice, it's so jammed with toppings.

But, I actually tried Lafesta in Dover when visiting the nearby Children's Museum , and you're quite right! It was very good brick-oven pizza. Service was a different cafeteria-style. Not bad, just different. You get your drinks and sides on a cafeteria tray, and ordered the pizza at the cashier, who brings it to the table when it's ready. I'll probably go back the next time I'm in town. The ingredients on the Margherita pizza (Tomato, Mozz and Basil) were very fresh.

I haven't been there in a long time. I really should try their pizza. They have been there forever, so I am sure they are doing something right.

Louies' is great. My wife loves the Hawaiian and I love the Pepperone.. By the way, we were down at Prince in Saugus a week ago and it wasn't as good as the old days.

I thought their pizza and service was horrible so I wouldn't be surprised if they shut down.

Wow, I thought there pizza was fantastic! The only complaint I had was it took over a 1/2 hour for a pizza, and thats when they were slow.They were, or are, affliliated with the Tamarak. Is the Anthonys behind the Tamarak still open?

We ordered a take out pizza from the North End the other night and it was pretty good. We got the Meat Lovers and it was loaded with toppings. Fourteen bucks for a 14" pizza. Enough for 2 meals for us.

We were also told they're going to be open all winter this year.

Couldn't disagree more - rolled out with a rolling pin and cooked in a toaster - not my idea of pizza.

Having grown up in NYC and now living in the Philly area both of which where pizza is king - I can say that there is no great pizza in Wolfeboro - but Anthony's Old Style Pizzeria, 18 Center St (in the strip mall with the Liquor Store) is the only place that makes real pizza - hand tossed, pizza oven baked. It is good.

I moved to the Lakes Region a few months ago. I tried pizza at a number of places and this is my preference so far. Pizza is such a subjective topic. This place also has an incredible clam chowder.

If you like a loaded pizza try their Farmers Daughter, excellent. As many times as I've been there I've never tried a regular pizza like the pepperoni. Must do that next time. My fav however is Pat's in Orono, Maine followed by Sam and Joe's in Danvers , Mass.

They will even deliver to the boat at the Meredith town docks. The have more traditional pizza's with the pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, etc. But we love the gourmet pizza's they have. Gourmet Pesto is the best. It has fried eggplant, tomato slices, roasted red peppers, Pine nuts, pesto sauce... Great atmosphere if you want to go inside also! But we like to bring our own cooler and sit on the boat watching the lake.

This is because they do not advertise themselves as a pizza place. It took several visits for me to get into their pizza due to the specials and other menu selections they offer. However, they have the best pizza around, by far! Their other menu items that might distract you from the pizza, but if you keep your mind on the pizza, you will be very happy with your visit. The place is between Samoset and Ellacoya State Park on Route 11. R2B

By the way, so is the rest of their food - breakfast, lunch and supper.

The first time we ordered them shortly after they openned they were great and cooked just right. The next time a couple months later we picked up another one and took it home to find it burnt so bad on the bottom you could not eat it. So last night we(us and another couple) called to order and specifically asked them to make sure it was not burnt on the bottom as our last one was. The girls ran down and picked up the pizzas and they were both burned dark brown to black and not edible. Returning them only got a response that "that is the way a Sicilian Pizza is supposed to be" and we disagreed and ended up paying 17.00 each for burnt Pizza. Sorry if this does not seem justified to rant about but we were not happy. Edit: We received a call from the owner or manager of Anthony's this morning and he said after looking at the crust of our returned pizzas he said our complaint was justified and refunded our money. He said the employee overcooked them. I forget what town but know we had to down around the Alton circle.

elchase Guest Posts: n/a	Across from Funspot We have been going to the new restaurant across from Funspot recently that makes brick oven pizza and it is really good. Don't recall the name of the place but it is right on Rt 3 where JT's Barbeque used to be. Try the Buffalo Chicken Pizza.

I must have driven by this place 100 times, and never noticed it was there. Stopped in for the first time last week, and I must say the pizza was absolutley fantastic! Thin crust, lots of cheese, and Loaded with toppings. Reminds me of the pizza I used to get in the North End years ago. Surprised no one else has mentioned the place.

Besides being great pizza, it's surprisingly inexpensive compared to what you'd expect to pay. I usually get a large, 4-toppings pie and it comes to something like $14 and change.

First the small pizza's that I believe Jetskier is reffering to are for the specialty pizza's. Those are always more than the typical 1 or 2 topping pizzas. The typical 1 and 2 topping pizza's are priced less. Second, in my opinion the pizza was very good. Third, its a pizza joint, its not suppose to be highbrow. Anyone going there should know its not O's or Canoe.

Driving home from work a few weeks ago I ordered a small sausage and mushroom pizza from Heat. I wasn't THAT hungry yet, and had planned on taking it home to Gilford and reheating it a short time later. However...after picking it up and opening the box, I just had to try a piece right there in the parking lot. The crust was exactly what you'd expect for a perfect hand-thrown pizza: bubbly, crackly and nicely browned (even some black, which I like). The sausage was also great and the mushrooms were a cut above the usual small slices you get at most places (I really like Papa Gino's also, by the way). The cheese was nicely browned here and there, and the sauce was a bit different but good. Tonight we have about 8 people coming over for a family gathering and rather than go to Papa's we're going to trust Heat for our pizza needs. I'll let you know if tonight's experience changes my opinion in any significant way.

Heat pizza is much better than Papa Ginos and the prices are in line with other pizza restaurants serving a similar menu. We must have eaten at different restaurants. The Heat pizza was not doughy the night I was there. If anything it was on the thin side.

If you are getting pizza "to go" in the Meredith area, it should begin and end with Louis Famous Pizza in the old Jackson Star plaza. Unreal. One tip however...ask for it to be over cooked a bit. Even better when a bit crispy.

Louis' in Meredith in the what used to be Star Market Mall is the BEST around....hands down. No employees to screw up your order...if the doors are open, the owners are there. As somebody said in another thread..."so much pepperoni, you can't see the cheese"
