What's with all the barges tied up along Mark Island? It doesn't appear that they are there for work being done but rather belong to the property owner/contractor. Two of them are far enough away from us that they don't upset my view but if I lived next door I would not be happy. I'm surprised that Gilford allows this to happen.

I am fairly certain those barges belong to Steve Buzota of Island Support Services. He has a pretty large home on Mark. He is also a well respected area businessman and I doubt he is doing anything against town ordinance.

The one on the tip of the island closest to Bear, tucked in the cove is the blue ISS barge. The others in the cove further down belong to Lakes Region Marine Construction I believe. I am not sure who owns the property in the cove down there but they are not new to the area. I have seen the barges there every year since we have been on the island. The ISS barge was there last year as well.
There is typically another one on the back side facing Governors that belongs to Watermark, tied up at Glenn Fuller's place. |

Does Mark Island have deed covenants that prohibit the use of the property for commercial purposes? If not, they should - we do here on Barndoor.

Not a lawyer, but I would think it depended on how the amendment to the covenants was written and whether it was passed by the necessary number of residents. That would depend on the association by-laws if there is an association.

We do not have anything in our deeds that prohibits this. There is no association. It does not bother me, although I am not facing any either. Steve is a great guy, he built our home. Glenn is a great guy as well, always helpful. I have no complaints at all about the barges.

At least is keeps the rafters away... The barges don't play loud music, get drunk in public, dump trash in the lake or poop on the land of private landowners. I'll take the barges! LOL!
![]() Seriously, barges have been parked there for years. Hardly a new issue. If you didn't notice until now, that speaks volumes to how much of a blight on the landscape they really are, no? That's a nice tucked away place. No issues here and I pass by them all the time. |

Folks,
I know the owner...he lets them park there to keep folks out of the cove and off his property. BTW this property is really 6 lots merged all together by the town years ago. The owner however does not mind...he likes the tax break. ![]() Ms Merge |
