Default Dinner at Kona

The Kona Mansion is closing next weekend, so we decided to have dinner one last time before their season ends. Some friends turned us on to Kona last fall, and we've been going back ever since.

There were 6 of us last night, and when we arrived, Brian had a surprise for us. The evening was chilly, and he had built a fire and set a table for us next to the green tile fireplace. Remember, this is a home built by the same people who designed Luck Now, aka Castle in the Clouds. With the soft lighting and the warm fire we were instantly transported to another era. If you've ever wondered what life was like in a time before airplanes and automobiles, this is the way to experience it!

All of the meals were great, as usual, and reasonably priced. Over the past summer we've had a number of different entrees, and never been disappointed. The chef's special last night was lobster, shrimp, and scallops in a garlic butter sauce over angel hair pasta, and is highly recommended! But I have to say that my favorite part of dinner is the generous serving of fried dough in place of dinner rolls! I have to confess that I'll be putting some in the freezer next week to tide me through the winter!

Kona really is a nice place to have dinner. You should always call ahead for reservations. The Crowley family is very personable, and we always have a nice time. If you're expecting the Ritz, this isn't it. But, if you enjoy a quiet, unhurried dinner with good food and friendly service, you should give it a try. This is a piece of Winnipesaukee history, and it brings you back to a time that will never come 'round again.

Kona is closed for the winter but should reopen next spring around Memorial Day. I'll put up a post to let everyone know when they open.
