Southend Pizza in Laconia
South end Pizza has been voted best seafood in lakes region.
No lobster just clams, scallops, shrimp and fish. Some of the freshest around with great prices and good quantity. I’ve been telling people about this place for years and it is good to see them recognized. They also have great salads, pizza, subs and more. They are directly across from Sherwin Williams paint store going south on 106. |

It's funny but when I mentioned this thread to Argie he said he thought they were marginal and was surprised anyone voted them as the best...
I'm wondering if this isn't one of those "paid advertisement" things where they can claim they're the best, like one of the local Chinese restaurants did a few years back, but everyone who's been there thought "meh" when asked about it.... |

Tonight after an enjoyable movie at the Cinema 8 in Gilford we went looking for a bite to eat. After having read this thread the other day, we decided to go find the South End and give it a try. Well, let me tell you. We weren't disappointed. The service was friendly, the ordering was easy and the food came out to us very quickly.
We chose to split a Seafood Platter which came piled high with whole belly clams, shrimp, scallops and haddock and french fries. Tartar sauce and some excellent cole slaw were served in a side dish. Everything tasted wonderful, nice and fresh, lightly battered, Um Um Good. Two of us ate our fill and still took some home. To the Belmont Resident, Thank you for bringing this restaurant to our attention. To the nice folks who own and operate the South End. Job Well Done, keep up the good work. I will certainly be a repeat customer and can't wait to try your pizza. |

Glad you liked them.
I've been enjoying their food for years. And unlike the Tamarack (spelling ?) they are open all year round which speaks a lot in itself. A lot of restaurants stay open for just the summer because their food only appeals to those not concerned with quality. Kind of like the fair food, good for the moment but not what you would take the family out for.
Try their Chef salad you will not go away hungry. |

Just curious about who voted them the best seafood in the lakes region......I know a lot of people claim to have been "voted" best steak, best burger, best breakfast, etc etc. Some just make it up as a marketing tool but there are so many restaurants selling seafood......I'd like to see the results of the vote......wonder who came in second.

Used to be great...
I used to love their steak and cheese, but stopped in last year for one and it was terrible. Maybe it was an off day, but I ended up throwing most of it away. I like to use UrbanSpoon to guage user reviews, and South End rates at 58% of patrons liking it. Yelp on the other hand has only one vote at 4/5.
SAMIAM and I are still waiting to hear who voted it best. If it's a reliable source, I'd try it again, but don't care to throw away another lunch. IMHO |

After reading the comments on this place I thought we might give it a try.
Is it the best seafood in the area? Hard to say. That is so subjective, but I will say this. The scallops and clams were just the way I like them. (Clams on the smaller side as were the scallops) My wife had fish and chips which she declared to be good. Oh and the coleslaw was very good. The only quibble was the tartar sauce. A little too acidy. The price was fair. The service was good and judging by the comings and goings of the customers it appears to be a popular place. I will return when I need a scallop/clam fix. |
