Does anyone remember this place, located across from Butler's Busy Corner store? In the 60's on summer vacation, my parents would have me boat down to the town dock each morning and go up to the Blue Jay to pick up doughnuts (plain) right from their doughnut making machine, then dash back to the boat and make my way back to the rented cottage (Loon Cove) ASAP so they were still warm. They were a treat with a fresh cup of coffee.

I sure do remember the fresh doughnuts and blueberry muffins too. They also rented rooms up stairs. We were across from you just south of Peggy's cove.

In the early 70s some friends of our bought that place and made the doughnuts. I can vaguely remember it

The Blue Jay was not Butler's. Butler's Busy Corner is today Amilyn's. The Butler's were school teachers from MA but I forget where. They were very nice people and I always loved going into their store.

I remember the Blue Jay back when it was a pizza shop, counter service and arcade games over in the left corner. I believe it was Connie and Al's daughter who operated the donut shop, they sure were nice hot and fresh donuts. What a way to spend an early morning by the lake with a cup of coffee and warm donut.

They were Sid and Mary Butler and I dated their niece. They were super people. When we first moved to Alton Bay in 1996, I went to the Old Home parade and saw Sid. He was sitting in a wheel chair on the bridge over the Merrymeeting. When I walked up to him and said hi, he recognized me (hadn't seen me since about 1966) and we talked like it had only been a few months since we had seen each other.
I believe they were from Andover or North Andover, as was my old girlfriend.

WOW! Guess people do remember! Thanks McDude for posting the photo's so I could show my "much better half".
Was the adjacent mini-golf owned by the same folks? That was a "classic" as in; 'miniature golf nostalgia' course |

PapaBarnCat,
I don't have the answer to your question but the "classic" mini golf course was still going until a few years ago when it was completely redone with another mini golf course in the same location. |

Al and Connie owned the Blue Jay mini-golf and the building with the donut shop, apartments, and arcade.

I grew up just behind the donut shop as a kid... The smell wafting through the air of freshly made donuts on a weekend morning was almost unbearable.. I just wanted to run down and buy the whole place out! Typically on a weekend morning they would be sold out in just a matter of hours.wish they were still there!

I worked for Connie and Al for 5 summers. My sister in law was there before me and she was there for 5 summers also. I have been married. For 40 years and my husband would help Al out at the golf course and then go dive for the Mount!! fun summers. And thanks PapaBearCat for your memory, I may have waited on you!!!!
