Question Internet access question - Bear Island area

Hi folks - will be coming to the beautiful lake soon and want to purchase a "laptop stick" for my Mac, and purchase a month of mobile high speed internet time. Does anyone know if T-Mobile or Verizon works out there? And does Fairpoint (the phone provider) internet access work on the island? Could not tell by their coverage map.
Sorry to be such a dummy. Thanks!

Default Verizon spotty

I use my blackberry to tether to the internet and I can't get an EVDO signal on south Bear. I contacted technical support and was told I am in a fringe area. We made some adjustments to the hardware settings but it didn't help. The tower is in Meredith Center (or on the Center road) so its quite a distance to the island. My son doesn't get a 3G signal on his iPhone either so that pretty much eliminates my blackberry as the problem. I can still connect using the slow speed cell signal. But, I can get an EVDO signal 100 yards off shore. Might have to anchor out and connect from the boat.

Default Verizon excellent on Welch

We get a strong signal on the west side of Welch and excellent 3g service with a Verizon MIFI card.

Default Mifi works great on North side of Mink

No issues with the wife's iPhone or my Blackberry either. But as was already mentioned, coverage can vary a lot around the lake.

We're on West Bear as well and it works fine.
