Whole wheat pancakes?????

Ok, I'm somewhat of a self-admitted breakfast snob

From time to time IslandPrincess and I like to go out for breakfast. I have never - never - never eaten breakfast anywhere where the place served good pancakes. They are ALL made with white flour and too much sugar.

You'd think, in this day with all the talk about healthy eating that someone would make a good 100% whole wheat pancake, perhaps with blueberries.

Ok, yes, yes, if we really want to be healthy we'd eat oat meal or fruit or something really wholesome like that, but we have these things every day during the week, and on the weekends I make whole wheat blueberry pancakes - we spurge a bit.

Then there's the whole thing about fake "maple" syrup. There are a FEW places that have real maple syrup. We could go on to talk about floppy bacon

(can't we have crisp bacon?)

But back to the main subject - NO one (that I've found) serves whole wheat pancakes.

If you've never had 100% whole wheat pancakes, made with buttermilk, whole wheat flour (NOT whole wheat *white* flour), at least one egg in the mix per 2 [good sized] pancakes, and blueberries, you haven't lived

(just kidding, but really - they are GOOD!) Geesh - I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!!

How much more would it cost to make quality pancakes like that? Maybe 25 or 50 cents more than the other stuff?

If there is such a place that serves 100% whole wheat pancakes, I'd sure like to know about it!!!!

We've never found them anywhere but Polly's either.

We make our own, or we make ployes (which is buckwheat, and IMHO, tastier than whole wheat.)

That's what I've done. You can buy the tiny bottles at any grocery store. Keep it in your wife's purse or in your pocket.

I agree...fake maple syrup is disgusting!

The reason why Paul couldn't find the link for the restaurant that we were searching for was because it was listed under Attractions instead of Restaurants in the Lake Links, when it could have been listed in both.
It should be fixed soon.

Whole wheat pancakes and more!!!

About a half hours ride from Alton.

They offer a petting zoo, wagon rides and seasonal family events like bonfires and maple tours. The website hasn't been recently updated, so call for events. Heritage Farm Gallery

The bacon, eggs and potatoes are amazing here!

The breakfasts are served family style on platters and you serve yourself.

FYI: When we went a couple years ago, they were using disposable plates, utensils and cups.

Didn't love that.

Isn't NH grand?! The view of the Presidential Range is amazing from Sugar Hill.

Polly's Pancake Parlor is wonderful and I cannot wait to go back!

If you do venture to this Norther Attraction, be sure to visit the Sugar Hill Sampler gift shop and museum that is up the road from Polly's.

I drove by Pollys this Saturday.Great food but be warned in tourist(fall) season as it can be extremely crowded.My sister has a ski house just past Pollys.Love the Sampler.Good friends family has owned all that property and the Sampler for many moons.She lives across the street.In my opinion this area has the best view in all the northeast.You see all the Franconia range including Lafayette and Cannon,along with the Mt Washington and the rest of the Presidentials.This area is my home away from home and has been for 35 years.As much as I love Winni,this place is a close first for me.

I take it you won't be behind me in line at the Sandwich fair ordering a Sausage with pepper and onions and of course a blooming onion on the side.

Ok - well, we checked out Heritage Farm, and I must say it was very good.

You get a nice array of choices. The whole wheat blueberry pancakes were quite good, as was the piece of french toast I had. They will make bacon to order - very crispy if you like it that way (which is how I like it), and of course real maple syrup.

We sat outside in the sun, and were visited by a very friendly and absolutely tame donkey

She wanders around and keeps the grass trimmed.

They also sell fresh vegetables, and had quite a bit of corn on hand.

Anyway, a good experience! I would highly recommend.

Great Review! We love it there.

Before you jump in the car and head over to the Heritage Farm.. be sure it's not Sunday. They are closed on Sunday.

Worst part about fake syrup, besides the taste: they use sugar alcohols. Non-digestible (that's why no calories) that passes right through your system. So you can spend time later with a sore stomach or worse. Watch out for anything that is a "tol": xylitol, sorbitol. Also find it in gum, "light" smoothies...

....visit Parker's Maple Barn in Mason, NH. First off....they only serve grade bazillion "A" maple syrup made right on site. Second, I don't know if it's the same as whole wheat, they are the only place that I know of that serves buckwheat pancakes (cliche to follow ---> just like my Mom used to make) that are huge and delicious. Chase this with a side of patty sausage, a side of smoked link sausage and some of that floppy/fatty bacon that you don't like and you'll be in heaven. Makes my mouth water just reminicing about it!!

Been to Heritage Farm a few times. Its on my way up from Mass off Rt93. Food is very good. Bought maple Syrup(B & C), also very good. Found out about this place by taking a carriage ride at Mills Falls in winter of 2010. The driver was the owner of Heritage Farm.

Also been to Polly's, also very good.
