I got a free Google Voice phone number which forwards to my home and cell. GV allows you to set up groups and essentially screen your calls. You can also let only certain numbers through. I give this number out to all the places I do businesses with so they can reach me (if I want) but not know my real numbers. It's great for weekends on the boat when you only want friends and family to be able to call you.

I don't know of anyone who likes it when a machine calls them. Maybe it is just me.
I am still trying to get the CVS machine to stop calling me when my perscriptions are ready for refill. I am tired of the calls from Waste Management telling me the trash will be picked up one day late. The bill mentioned above to allow robo calls to your cell phone is sponsored by Representative Lee Terry of Nebraska: Telephone:202-225-4155. I called to voice my opinion against it. If you have an opinion on this you may wish to voice it too. Last edited by TiltonBB; 12-06-2011 at 02:42 PM. |

So you let the call got to voicemail and delete it later.
My cell phone became my primary phone years ago saving me hundreds a year, getting rid of the land line. Now whenever I get a restricted number or a number that comes up out of this area I never answer it anyways, but let it go to voicemail. When I’ve gotten computer generated calls most of the time there is a timer that automatically hangs up the call when it goes to voicemail. Anyways I don’t see how it would ruin anyone’s day or weekend. It isn’t like it is a constant thing, or is it? I have not had a land line in years so maybe it is.

Every single one of us can put together a robo campaign (software and hardware) for less than the cost of a one inch display ad in the Boston Globe. We can maintain it for less than the cost to maintained a classified ad in the Laconia Daily Sun. We can reach more people than a 300 stall phone room in Iowa. It is real easy

it would ruin my weekend becuase I would have to listen to my phone going off for no reason, and no I cannot shut it off for other reasons.
just another annoyance while I am sitting on the boat or on the deck i guess. What a pain

My wife's position is a 24/7 position. It comes with executive level positions.
Glad I gave up that rat race years ago and started my own business.

Don't forget, not everyone has unlimited cell phone minutes. We should be allowed to bill the phone spammers for the expense.

I personally do not see any problem. As stated a few threads before mine all one needs to do when the phone rings look and see who is calling and answer if you recognize the caller or just stop the ringing and let them leave a message and check/and or delete later in the day/evening, really how much time does that take?

Just read that this bill has been pulled by it's sponsors since there was so much oppisition to it. An MSNBC survey that showed 99.5% against it was quoted.
Thank god for some common sense in Washington! |

How much time will be left in your day when you receive 701,3417 calls? This is a very important topic! imagine if every pizza place, every gas station, every restaurant, insurance agency, real estate agent, etc. called daily to solicit something. Our phones will never stop ringing and I'm certain there are young entrepreneurs standing buy to sell this service to those who are not aware of how easy it is to start and maintain.
Um...I think your getting just a little overly concerned about this... |
