Pitch removal

A friend of mine has a boat that he docks at his cottage all season. Unfortunately it sits under some pine trees. He has noticed quite a bit of sap on the deck. What is the best method to remove this? I would think a cleaner/wax or a fine-cut cleaner (mild rubbing compound) would work. Does anyone have a suggestion that may be quicker? Thanks in advance.

A little alcohol on a rag and rub lightly will remove sap

I have used everything. Turpentine WORKS best. Turpentine is made from pine sap so turpentine will disolve pine sap. It will not harm the paint.

I agree on the wd-40, we have also use krud kutter, it works great.

WD-40 (40th attempt at a Water Displacement chemical) works great. Also a product called "Goof Off" which can be bought at Home depot in the paint dept works great and can be used to remove adhesives, paint, labels etc. Great stuff!

Better than all of the above is " De-Solv-it Contractors Solvent". A little goes along way to dissolve any sticky situation. I have used it on annoying store labels to grease on kitchen cabinets with fast results. A general contractor that worked for me first told me about it 7 years or so ago. It used to be hard to find but is now in most hardware stores.

Try butter....works great with pitch/sap on your hands. Have used it for years.

We cut down our overhanging pine tree.

Do not use fingernail polish remover, by the way.

WD40 works for me, too.

I second the vote for Krud Kutter. I have also used olive oil as suggested in another thread here on the forum. Both worked well and didn't damage the finish.

I think there is a Goo Gone but I'm looking at my can of Goof Off right now while I'm goofing off on the forum.
