While I was walking my dog this afternoon at Ellacoya, it was interesting to still see a lot of salmon spawning in poor farm brook. I counted 50 + just in the short section between the main lake and the small foot bridge that separates the RV park from the state park. Usually by now spawning is done.
Back in late October I was walking down the snowmobile trail that follows poor farm brook on the south side of route 11 and there were a lot of salmon even that far up the brook with some rainbows that were chasing and eating the salmon spawn. It was quite a sight to watch. Those fish went over a lot of obstacles to get up the brook that far!! Mother Nature sure can put on a good show when she wants! Dan |

About 10 days ago we were walking up West Alton Brook upstream from the Rt 11 crossing, near the cemetery. There were 10+ very nice looking salmon in a small pool, neat to watch from a few feet away.

Went back today and took these pics. If you look carefully in the first pic you can see multiple salmon (15+) just sitting there, some are pretty good sized!

Where are they now?
Yesterday morning I went down to the Mount Washington dock on Alton Bay to check on the fishing. There was plenty of open water around the dock. I got there at 11:00 and stayed til 12:30. No one caught any fish while I was there, but a guy from Salisbury, who was one of the regulars, when I fished there for 10 years or so on April Fools Day, said only two people caught Salmon in the morning. Some mornings I had my limit by 8:30. One morning five guys had fish on their lines and had to wait for the one net we had. I went by about noon today and no one was on the dock and no one was fishing from the bridge. |

Not sure if you noticed, but the F&G put a railing on the pier behind the stores that is now F&G's and a good size group moved off the bridge to that spot today.
