Powder Coat

I have few small parts that I am looking to have powder coated. Does anyone know someplace that does powder coating in the Gilford / Laconia area? Couldn't find anyone online in the yellow pages...

You might try Alton Motorsports in Alton. I know he has a spray both but not sure if he does powder coat or not. May be worth a phone call. 875-7575

How small?
You can always DIY it, powdercoat guns are cheap and you can use an old toaster oven to bake the powdercoat.

Not small enough for me to try it! Its a couple downrigger pedestal mounts that I made out of aluminum, want to powder coat them gloss black for durability.

Well, I'm sure there is someone in the area that does it. I'm surprised you don't actually know anyone already, I figured you'd deal with that from time to time in your business.

What about anodizing them?

There are machine shops in NH that will do powder coating. It is not that simple as buying a powder coating gun. The object to be powder coated need to be charged so that they are positive so that the powder can cover well along with proper surface preparation. Then the powder is heated to a set temperature. I'm sure the local machine shops such as Tangent, Baron etc. can coat them for you.

This probably won't be cheap, as most shops I used to deal with had a minimum charge.

Most of the machine shops I used to deal with would contract this out, some sheet metal shops would do it in house though.....

All the painters we deal with are huge and all of them out of state. I could anodize them but thought gloss black powder coat would look better on the new boat and they could be touched up over the years easier than anodizing. There really is no way to touch up anodizing...

A friend just emailed me about a local guy who lives in Gilford who powder coats on the side and has a shop in Hooksett. I will probably give him a try.

Actually, it pretty much is that simple. But you also need an oven, I use an old toaster oven. I wanted to keep the double-oven we replaced with a stainless steel unit (for no reason) to be able to do larger items, but the wife didn't like that idea.

I use the ALSA gun, it works very well, especially for "little" stuff.

Actually, I've used ALSA stuff on various projects, they have a lot of cool paints and stuff. Their speed-clear is my go-to for almost everything.

I never realized they have been able to bring powder coating to the point where it is now consumer applicable for not that much money.

Problem with powder coating Aluminum is that it will corrode under the powder coating layer if not pretreated and prepped really well before doing it.
Especially around salt water. I find this all the time in airplanes that are maintained by owners. Boats will be even worse due to the close proximity to water and being out in the rain all the time. Just make sure it is prepped well beforehand. And keep an eye out near hardware points.

I had some stuff powercoated a few years ago somewhere in Gilford, NH. I'm trying to remember the name of the place. if you ask any place to put it in with whatever they got going it will be cheeper for you. or ask them to wait for when the have a black run if time is not an issue.
