Hello,
This is a great forum, I'm happy to be a new member. My family has decided to move up to a larger boat on Lake Winni. We have been using a Ranger bass boat on small lakes and the river. We are excited to move up to a larger boat. I have a boat in mind, its on the lake already stored at a marina. Does anyone know of a boat inspector in the area that can be hired to do a pre purchase inspection. This boat that I looked at doesn't have a trailer, the inspection will need to be done at the marina its stored at. Thank you for any recommendations or advice. |

We had Mark Corke do a survey for us last summer and I would definitely recommend him. It was very short notice (unexpected bank requirement) and he was very accommodating timing-wise. I was with him as he did the inspection and he would point out things as we went along. Even little tips like tie-wrapping a battery cable so it wasn't resting on a sharp edge, potential for using LEDs in interior lights, etc. The resulting written report was completed quickly and was very thorough, including a number of photos in support of findings.

I used Bob Gallagher last summer and was very happy. www.gallaghermarinesurveyors.com/
You don't say what type of boat you're looking at. Surveyors specialize somewhat, sail, power, antiques, wood, high performance, and may have extra accreditation, e.g. engines, oil analysis, etc. Call a couple and discuss your specific needs. Some will travel at low or no cost as they combine trips or other business. If there is no trailer, you will probably have to pay to haul the boat for bottom inspection, or to launch and retrieve for a sea trial. As noted above, banks and insurance companies often request a survey, so better to do it before you start negotiations. The survey is yours. You don't have to show it to the seller when you negotiate. Or it may say this is a great price, buy before the seller changes his mind. |

Thank you all for the replies and links; I've made calls and will let you know how this works out. Hopefully we will be on the water soon.
Have a great holiday weekend. |

He inspected our boats last year. It was 10 years old and he did a heat job with the inspection. He's not that far from Winiipesaukee, so give him a call. Last edited by aquabones; 05-29-2014 at 05:10 AM. Reason: misspelled words |

The boat we were hoping to buy had a bad lower unit and we decided not to continue with the purchase.
If anyone knows of a Walkaround for sale in good condition I'm in the market. |

I've seen a couple of decent ones for sale on Rt. 106. One is near the local gas stations and another is further up the road as you get closer to Laconia and the Rt 3 byway. Depending on how you drive to the lake you could drive that way, there are always a bunch of smaller lots with boats for sale on this road...
