Mass to Moultonborough: Which Way to Go?

Hi,

I am driving, and towing a 23 foot boat, up from Massachusetts on the 4th for a week at the Lake. I am staying in Moultonborough, not far from Suissevale (Rt 109). In the past I have taken Route 93 to Route 104 and gone through Meredith center. I am worried about 'extra' traffic this year due to the 4th and all the activities going on. Does anyone have an opinion\experience on taking my traditional route (93N to 104 to 25 to 109) versus an alternative like Route 95N to 16 to 28 to 171?

Any advice is appreciated.

I think you have the most direct route going

In my experience the 16/28 route generally has less traffic but the toll booth on 95 can get pretty backed up. Should be cake after that though

Or, you could jump off 93 in Concord and go up 106 or go a little further east and get on 28 in Epsom.

Personally I don't mind a few extra miles if it's a nice drive and keeps moving. Plus I hate towing anything on the interstate

That's the best route, especially towing a good sized boat. You could drive up to exit 24 and come south through Holderness, but I don't think that would save any time. You could also cut through some back roads to miss Meredith Center, but they would be rough with a boat as they are pretty bumpy, hilly and windy.

You can easily avoid the big Meredith intersection and major traffic back-up there by getting off Route 93 at Exit 24-Ashland, and take Rt 3-25 east thru Ashland and Holderness, take a left onto Rt 25-B in Centre Harbor and follow it for about 4-miles to the intersection with Rt 25-Centre Harbor and Heath's Hardware store.....then it's about 5-miles on Rt 25 till you get to the Moultonborough Aubuchon Hardware store, and Moultonborough Neck Rd.

Moultonborough is a long, long ways from everywhere!

I live in Moultonborough and go 95 to 16 to 25 from Revere ..easy peasy. Traffic is only backed up going over the bridge at Newington if it's 3pm or after..rest of the drive on a regular basis, a breeze!

Big surprise for Rt 25-B in Center Harbor; the two most pot-holed and dilapidated sections of Rt 25-B close to the tennis courts, and over the top of Dane Hill have recently been repaved with new asphalt so's the road is much smoother now.

Repaving the state roads; what state government should be all about; so's we can live free and drive, without needing a Jeep! Rt 25-B is now smooth enough for driving a Corvette!

As others have replied you probably have the best route as your normal Route...Not knowing what you have for a tow vehicle, going to exit 24 and coming into Center Harbor on 25B could be an option... but 25B is steep in both directions... So if you tow vehicle could be strained.... now if you have 3/4 Ton Chevy 2500 series you would probably be ok... but if you only had a 1/2 ton 1500 Series I would question going over 25B....

But that is just my .02$ talking....

Depending on the time of day you come through Meredith probably will not be to bad.

25B is still mostly a mess, on both sides of the hill.

Does Meredith have a parade on the 4th? I think that Wolfeboro does. With that in mind, coming up on Saturday the 4th, 95 to rte 16 to rte 25 then down to Moultonborough can be a really good option. Fairly easy tow. Just a thought

Wolfeboro does have a parade at 10 on the 4th.

I think I am just going to keep with my normal route or 104, through Meredith center.

another option nobody offered if you want to travel the east side of the lake from 93 is to take the 393 exit in Concord to Rt 4 and either cut through Chichester (windy and bumpy road) or go to the Epsom circle and take Rt 28 to the Alton Circle then 28 up through Wolfboro.

My preference is 93 to 104 but I sometimes take the above route just to mix things up. I imagine you will find some traffic in Wolfboro but nothing like the west side of the lake. The difference b/t the two routes from Concord cant be 10 minutes to the Suissvale area (guessing) given anticipated traffic.
