Swiming off boats...?

Hi all, We'replanning a week on the lake this summer, I'm new to this, any ideas for beaches, sand bar, etc, that allow boats to moore or beach, for swiming or a stop for lunch?

There are many out of the way places you can anchor, and swim off the boat - exploring is part of the fun at the lake. So many coves, and usually the water is clear and not too deep. Be courteous to folks that may be in houses that now line most of the coves, but you don't need permission to anchor. Meredith and Weirs beach have docks where you can park (first come, first serve), and have a nice beach right beside the docks.

Try Braun Bay for a nice sandbar. Get there early and bring two anchors on a weekend though. Gets crowded in a fun sort of way (for awhile). Same with the sandbar at the entrance to West Alton Marina across from Sleeper's island. Both offer nice sand and shallow water but neither has a beach. There are others but you'll have to find them on your own... Have fun.

A very popular cove is located on the west side of Winter Harbor about 3/4 mile along the shore from the Broads. This is called Johnson's Cove, is very protected, get morning and midday sun. Further into Winter Harbor is the Carry Beach. You can anchor outside the swim lines and go ashore. There is a bathhouse at this beach, and life guards. Approach to the west side, but be very careful of rocks, very big rocks, just below the surface. This beach gets sun all day, and beautiful sunsets to the northwest. You probably already know that all the land around the lake is owned, so just pulling up to a nice spot and using it isn't really an option. Enjoy the Lake.

If you decide to anchor in a cove or near an island to swim off your boat, don't forget to make sure you're not anchoring near someone's water line. We live on an island and people anchor in the cove we live on all the time and we're constantly fearful that someone's going to rip up our water line with their anchor!

Fryes Leap in Sebago Lake perhaps? Don't know of any in Winni.

My wife went to college on Sebago and used to jump off the railroad bridge and Frye's. A great time...I do not know of anything like it on Winni though...

We used to enjoy the cliff jump just south of the West Alton sandbar, but they just put in houses up there, so that one's now gone! We'd love to know of any others.

Being a newbie on the lake, how does one know where the water line is located? Are they easy to spot?

The old Wawbeek in Melvin Village used to have a wonderful high-dive tower at the end of the dock. I can still remember my first jump, first dive, and the time I coaxed my six year old brother to jump off. Today, it seems, everyone is getting rid of diving boards and towers (not just at the Lake) because of liability issues. There's a great jump (nothing like Frye's) just upstream from Franconia Falls in the Whites. Came across it at the end of a backpacking trip, and it was a blast.

People are still jumping off the rock that MJM mentioned in a previous post. I was there all last week & one day 3 boats were anchored there & people were jumping off the rock.

Eventually that may end when the construction is finished, although its not clear by looking at it if there will be houses right up to shore, if there will be docks there ect. Do it now before you no longer can.
