Stink bugs...What happened to them???

For a number of years up 'till last year there has been an invasion of these obnoxious stinkers that can get into your home through very tiny openings.

Last year I was killing 30 per day on the outside siding.

I was told they had no predators.

This year I've seen none!!!

They moved south to MA! Everyone I talked to had LOTS of them this year!

I live out west and noticed the same thing: there were a lot of stink bugs the past few years, but none to speak of this year.

There is a new bug helping to fill the void, a small cricket-looking creature: they say "Nature abhors a vacuum."

The worst pest problem I had was "the year of the millipedes," when large numbers of them swarmed around and sometimes in the house.

Glad that one ended after one season.

Many bugs have population cycles. For instance, Gypsy Moths peak every 7 years ( I think that's the number). Maybe 'Stinkers' have a low point?

Same with lady bugs. Some years there’s tons some years there’s none. Cycles

I think that might be what he is talking about barefoot. They look like ladybugs but they really aren't.

I think Garysanfran is talking about the same bugs that barefoot bay is. They are just calling them different things. They look like ladybugs and most people call them that but they really aren't. They come out this time of year, as if they are trying to stay in the heat. They are just awful. They get through the smaller cracks.

I was on a businesss trip to Pennsylvania a few weeks ago and took pictures of the Spotted Lantern Fly that has invested that state. I understand that they stink when you kill them.
The attached photos were taken when I came out of a restaurant. Also attached is a news article that talks about it.

Western Conifer Seed Bug (see picture, post #12 byApS). The were pretty bad in New Hampshire last year, but I don't recall seeing any this year.

Last year and the year before we had an epidemic of brown marmorated stink bugs, an invasive species from Asia which first arrived in the USA in 1996 and has since been found in most states.
