I spent some time on Cape Cod this summer where the sharks are creating some real problems with tourism. Some people are now rethinking their vacation plans and pool builders are booked solid.
It made me think that this may be a great opportunity to draw some tourism away from the ocean and to the Lakes Region. I know we'd like to keep it nice and quiet for ourselves but the local economy needs all the help it can get. I've asked my daughter (a graphic designer) to create a sample ad with the "No Sharks Here" theme when she has some spare time. If any of our members have some Photoshop type skills and some ideas for a funny ad please see what you can create and post it in this thread. It should be fun and maybe give the Lakes Region Association some ideas. |

My wife bought a couple Winnipesaukee "No Sharks" sweatshirts for me at Wolfeboro Casuals ( downtown Wolfeboro ). Less as a thoughtful spouse gift and more to make fun of my irrationally high fear of sharks. |

It's been busy enough this summer. I'd rather not see any more visitors.
Can't we say we have lake monsters! |

I like the "No Sharks Here" idea. Remember, we got national publicity with the "Brake for Moose" bumper sticker campaign. From Labor Day through FITN Primary day, NH is in the spotlight.

The only sharks in Lake Winnipesaukee are inflatable! Come on up...nothing to be afraid of here!

My family has vacationed at the lake for many, many years and we have never seen as much traffic as there was this year. Usually it's just the weekends, but every time we ventured away from the cottage, traffic was difficult.
With the complaints from many places about lack of help, do you really need more business in the Lakes Region in the summer? Seems like the area is doing pretty well! |

I had a friend come up a few years ago with his kids. Neither of the kids would put even a pinky toe into the water - they were terrified of bull sharks! I explained that this is a fresh water lake with nothing here that bites but they were having none of that. "Bull Sharks swim upstream in rivers. They could be here!". Explaining that we were a hundred miles from the ocean and that there were a few dams in between meant nothing to them. Sad, really. They grew up only ever swimming in a pool. Needless to say they have never been back and remain in the sheltered confines of the backyard above-ground pool.

I've been coming to the lake for 65 years and have never seen a shark in these waters. Of course I have also never seen a moose or a unicorn up here. Doesn't mean they do not exist.

I learned to swim in the lake at age 3 and I am much more comfortable in a lake than a cement sided pool filled with chlorine. Nothing compares to jumping off a dock or a rock into cool clear water!

Was life-guarding at the Weirs the summer "Jaws" came out. One day a couple of teens swimming in the deeper water began yelling "Shark! Shark!"....You guessed it; people began running out of the water. It took a few minutes to get everyone to realize we were at a lake.

Of course there are! Mutant fresh water sharks that infest the Lakes Region! They're almost as bad as the gene-engineered fisher cats that escaped from that gene lab hidden under the White Mountains. They like to eat pets, children, and small cars. And don't get me started on the coy-wolves and mountain lions.
Folks from away should probably go home...once they spend all their money. |
