At another website, a former Camp Winnemont camper posted her recent recollection of returning to those same Ossipee Lake shores.
After two decades of absense -- and a station wagon-full of her own daughters -- she drove up to her old Winnemont cabin, stopped, and broke down in tears. |

Growing up my family had a turn of the century camp on Tuftonboro Neck in Winter Harbor. A long lost uncle actually won the camp in a poker game! For a number of reasons and after many wonderful years on the big lake the family took a hiatus from the lakes region. Turn the clock ahead to 1980 or so and my folks purchased some land in Freedom and built a modest and wonderful vacation home. That started our next round of family memories in the lakes region. It truly is a beautiful lake. From swimming and boating to golf at Indian Mound, the next generation fell in love. My parents ultimately retired to Freedom and have called that home for over 20 years. My father now rests in Freedom and my mom will celebrate her 75th birthday this month with her passion for the place she calls home stronger than ever. As for us kids, all with families of our own now, we've managed to settle into the area in Conway, Moultonboro, Gilford and Alton. I know we would all agree that it really is like living in a postcard and we wouldn't have it any other way.
