Oil change problem ?

I just went to change my oil in my 4.3L MerCruiser engine.....

I've done this before using a hand pump I purchased at boat supply store.
The pump has an inlet hole where you connect a plastic tube, the other end over the dipstick (yes I removed the dipstick). The other inlet hole you connect another plastic hose, where the pumped oil will come out.

The issue is, when I start pumping, no oil comes out, it's like there's something wrong with the pump ? I've only used this pump 'one' time, in the past, so confused ?

As an alternative solution, is there an electric pump or a pump that can be attached to my electric drill to pump out the oil ?

I bought one of these about six years ago. It makes everything so easy and cleanup is quick. I use it on the boat, jetski, lawnmower and snowblower….

If its something like this, you need to make sure all the connections are tight and its not leaking vacuum anywhere. I have had mine for years and it works mint!

It sounds like an air leak someplace. Perhaps a split in the plastic tubes?

You may have lost the washer that goes in the female screw on fitting.

Also, these work best with “run around the lake” hot oil, not “let it idle for a while at the dock” warm oil.

I fitted a rubber hose to the drain plug on the oil pan. The rubber is long enough to attach to the transom. If the boat is out of the water, I would run the hose through the drain in the transom and remove the oil. If the boat is in the water I would fit the hose to a drain pump. Pretty slick!
