Default SCAM alert!

I just got a text message telling me I owed for an unpaid toll invoice. I have E-Z Pass, so I knew something wasn't right. The more I looked at the text I could see errors in the wording, and the link they wanted me to go to make a payment wasn't something I'd seen associated with E-Z Pass. This has all the earmarks of being a scam. Be careful.

Default Same...

...I received the same text message this morning. Once I put my reading glasses on and could see it, it was clear that it was a scammer/phishing text, ("click here to pay"). The " $ " sign was after the numbers that I allegedly owed, and the amount was several thousand dollars as a result of going through the tolls without a transponder.

I seem to get a few per week…thankfully, easy to spot. Today was on FB Marketplace…some “woman” with a minimal profile and wants to buy my TRACTOR PART…that was the first hint…she goes right into “ give me your number” and I answered “you first, along with a name and where you live”
No response.

I got the same text message this afternoon, and as MeredithMan observed, the "$" sign was after the amount, not before. I logged into my EZPass account and, as expected, it said I have a positive balance, so be very cautious if you get a similar text.

I've got those a few times in the past few years, not a new scam.

Why can't law enforcement follow the money trail? Bob Woodward knew how to do that.

Remember when the scams were so much simpler...the certified letter in the mail from the Nigerian prince, promising those millions to you if you would just help them get the money here, and all you had to do was pay the taxes first. Ah, the '80's....

Arrow SunPass, Too...

Maybe two months ago, I got a similar scam on my SunPass, but they asked for $30.

Having not used it for months, I logged in to the proper site and added my usual $10.

Default scams

Scams via cell phones are extremely commonplace. I get at least one a day. Can you imagine the good these losers could do if they channeled their efforts into something worthwhile?

This sounds like something my parents used to say to me, no..., it was my grandparents. Looking back, it was true then, and it still is, maybe even more true!

I stopped using the SunPass because the Florida tolls I go through have been accepting EZpass for a few years. Are there still some Florida tolls that do not accept EZpass?

The Easy Pass one is old I've gotten that message and even saw it on the news probably a few months ago now.

"You owe us..." Scams can be easy to check. Like EZ Pass, go to the normal website, or call the number on your regular bill to check your balance.

While visiting the lake I drove to the Cape in a rental car and was shocked to receive notification, I beliefe from the rental car company, that I owed for a toll assessed while I was motoring along in boston.

There were no toll booths, no signs, nothing saying a toll was due nor an obvious way to pay it.

Come to find out about this EZ Pass baloney.

Had to scramble to figure out how to pay it in time.

Bottom line: If you're gonna make it universal there should be signs / warnings telling out of staters such as I about it.

I'll admit to being bewildered.

I've never received any penalty (i.e., being billed by mail) elsewhere on the East Coast.
