As of April 11th, courtesy of Rattlesnakecam.com:

The lake temp is 43 degrees

Just a bit nippy, but if you're up to a hearty swim to work up a sweat... .

Hope you had a good winter, Mike. Any plans for any swims up this way this year?

Here's what 54 degree water does. Note the pained expression and curled toes. (May '04)

Talking I'll Be In Tomorrow.

We're opening our place on Bear this weekend and every year my sister and I jump in.

Chilly, but invigorating!!

Default Brrrrr

My kids were in a couple days after ice out last year. They weren't in long but they both jumped off the dock and went completely under. It was during April vacation so I'm guessing it was right about this time. We'll be up next week and if they haven't learned their lesson from last year I'll be sure to takes some pictures.

We went diving down here yesterday. Surface water was 45-47, but it was more like 43 down at 50 feet -- thermoclines were not very noticeable in the first 56 feet. This is why there are drysuits and wetsuits. Nothing like a little ice cream headache induced from the outside. Diving Winnipesaukee in less than three weeks...can't wait.

We went swimming (albeit BRIEFLY) last Friday, when the air was warm. Water was in low 50s, and it was seriously brisk, but a ritual in need of fulfillment...

Default Water Temperature

I just noticed that Winni's water temp is 78 degrees. If my memory serves me right, the lake's temp hasn't gone above 79 degrees in the last few years. However, it wouldn't surprise me if we see 80 or above this week.

Here come the algae blooms!

Guess we'd better get some dives in -- pronto!
