Think the extra hour of sunlight will hasten the ice melt?

Bahahaha! Good one...
Yes, I absolutely believe the lake will notice the time difference and will be iced out in no time! I'm going to get my boat ready this weekend! Cheers... Gusman |

As far as I know, mankind has never been able to add any more daylight to the day. All DST does is shift the daylight hours from morning to evening and I don't think nature has ever cared what our clocks say. However, it'll be great for people who like to see sunrises but don't like to get up early. Starting Sunday morning we're going to have sunrises just after 7:00 a.m.... getting going in the morning will have that "December" feeling all over again.

The extra hour is moved from the morning and placed into the afternoon. Thus, the warmer afternoon sun-hour will hasten ice-out. Wait and see!

If you are not running XP or Vista go to this address:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/services/tec...FIG/TZEDIT.EXE Download the EXE file (direct from Microsoft) when you open it you will be able to manually set your DST parameters. It is supposed to work on all Windows platforms back to 95. I downloaded it for my Win 98Se. I reset my parameters and will see Sunday morning.

Some kind of snowballing effect. I don't really know; I'm not a computer person. And I don't know what you mean by "once it has been set." All I know is what someone told me: if you don't download a "patch," the timing will be off and it will get worse and worse over time. Just passing along what I heard. ![]()

I am happy to say that the TZEDIT.EXE file from Microsoft worked like a charm on my Win98. When I got on this morning there was a notice telling me that Windows had automatically adjusted for Daylight Savings Time. I understand that Vista and recent XP systems are made to adjust automatically, while early XP and prior need a "patch". A "patch" being nothing more than a term for this TZEDIT.EXE (which you notice comes direct from Microsoft) or any other Time Zone EDITing program. All this program does is let you set your own parameters as to when you want the time changes made instead of locking you to 1st Sat in April and last Sat in Oct. Amazing how so much hoo-haa is given to such a simple issue. My Computer Geek is still rolling on the floor laughing about the "snowball effect" thing.

Since we are knee deep in this stuff at work:
Servers: Outlook with Exchange servers in the background did not update appointments created prior to our people applying the DST update to Exchange.. no fix yet. Windows 2000 servers have an issue, here is the fix: We have found an issue with Windows 2000 Servers that did not take the daylight savings time. All of them had the registry hack that was required but the time never changed. We tried manually moving the time but it would always revert back. After some investigation on Microsoft’s site we have found the fix and applied it to all these servers. They all appear to be keeping there time correctly. For those who have inquisitive minds the fix was as follows:ffice ![]() If the machine had the registry hack, simply double click on the time in the lower right hand corner. Select the Time Zone tab at the top and change the time zone to something other then what is listed, to something like Greenland, ffice:smarttags" /> Windows XP desktops: Microsoft has an update on their site to apply... a few of our machines did not work with this... update is being manually applied.
