Lunch Friday at Shibley's at the Pier
Well Maiden Cove and her mate made it over to Shibley's for the first time this summer and I thought I'd share my experience - a la a Phamtom Gourmet kinda thing... I've always loved the specialty sandwiches there and find them to be creative and tasty.
Anyway - we docked and ventured to the deck to sit by the water for our lunch. John, our waiter, was FANTASTIC. He was supremely attentive, very timely and a true gentleman! Kudos to Shibley's for having such a delightful server on staff. I've always loved the sandwiches there and this season's trip was no disappointment. I ordered the Chicken Salad sandwich, which included sweet pickles...yummy! The bread was a little too big so I ate most of the salad without the bread...I'd order it again, but with perhaps wheat instead of a bulky roll. The chicken was all white meat and very fresh and the pickles mixed in was a tasty surprise. If you don't like sweet gherkin pickles though, the taste may overwhelm you, but it was right up my alley Maiden's mate ordered the turkey ruben which was perfect. The bread was grilled just right and the dressing was tasty. The meat wasn't fatty an the cheese was melted perfectly. We ordered a side of onion rings which were awesome - there were tons of itty bitty onion nuggets, which we prefer, and they were piping hot. The waffle fries that came with my sandwich were fresh and also freshly hot. Everything was obviously very fresh and brought to our table just as soon as it was done cooking. My only complaint, and it's minor, is with the older woman who either owns or manages the place - she's always so unpleasant. She's been that way for the last 5 years that we've been going there. She needs to smile a little and make people feel welcomed at the place. Granted, we were fresh off the jet ski so we were a little damp and had our jackets with us, but that's one of the reasons we went to the deck. Last time I went with friends in the fall and she was so miserable, my friend preferred to leave (not a bummer ultimately, we ended up at Sandy Point for the fabulous king stuffed lobster). Anyway, 2 big thumbs up from Maiden and Mate for this season's Shibley's visit.... |
