Good and Bad experiences at lakes region restaurants
Let's all try to tell what our experiences are like at several restaurants and why we like or dislike different ones. Not mean posts with lots of drama but just good experiences and bad experiences and why. Here is my offering.
I have twice earlier this year been turned away at Sam and Rosie's as Sunday they used to close at noon. I went with a gal who was visiting and told her how great the lobster rolls were. The husband liked to get out right at noon and was angry if one came close to noon and sometimes would not let them in so he changed his time to 11:45???? Thus Sunday Sam and Rosie's CLOSED AT 11:45. They are now open until 2 PM!! It is my belief that The Bob House which does have great food and lobster rolls ($12.99) is cutting into BOTH Village Kitchen and Sam and Rosie's. I got a lobster roll at Sam and Rosie's Monday as The Bob House was closed. I agree that they are a bit better at Sam and Rosie's but they are much more expensive and they used to close at noon on Sunday. I tried to go for lunch to Sam and Rosie's with my daughter earlier in the spring and again it was a Sunday and too close to noon. The husband was rude. I think people should set hours and then allow people in if they are open until noon. We went down to Church Landing for brunch (which was not wonderful) instead. I have been going to the Woodshed since it opened. In my opinion and that of several friends it has gone down hill. My last two visits have been awful. One had a special that was a small filet and a lobster tail. The lobster was cold and funny looking and tasted strange. I told the waitress who said that it was fine and had just been sitting near the ice? I ate one more bite and called her over again. (all of my daughters have been waitresses during summer break from college etc. and I know that the first response should be to take away the food and ask what they can do). All I wanted was a lobster tail that tasted good enough to eat. The waitress came over and said she would bring another lobster tail. I do not know where she got it but it was fresh and had that wondeful lobster taste! It was also warm. Perhaps she took it from a whole lobster. A short time later someone came to my table and said that I had been quite helpful as they had received a poor shipment and were not offering that meal anymore as two other people had complained and she would not be charging me for the lobster tail. That was last year. Earlier this year I was asked to go with a neighbor. I said it was not one of my favorite places and I liked to get lobster. She called the Woodshed and asked if they had lobsters. They said that they did. She then asked if they were freshly cooked at the time one ordered and was told that they were. I agreed to go. We made a reservation for 6:45 PM on a Friday evening. My friend made the comment that this is the economy to be able to get a reservation an hour before on a Friday evening. We arrived full of expectation of a great lobster. My friend had wanted to cook lobsters but I preferred to go out. Lobsters were $24.95 for one pounders. She grumbled at me. When the waiter arrived we said we would both have the lobster. The waiter then told us that they only had one lobster left????? She said she would have scallops. I said that we would leave. We then went to the North End when we saw the sign that said Lobster Special. There we had a wonderful 1 1/4 pound lobster with a nice salad and rolls offered for $19.95. We also ordered a nice side pasta that we split. I do not know what to tell you. I am not going to be going to Sam and Rosie's as much as I like people to smile and be happy to have you and not watching the clock to see how close to closing you are and turn you away if you are too late to get them right out the door. I also do not want old food that does not taste good at the Woodshed. (If it is any help to you, I have several friends who do not like the Woodshed any longer.) I do love The Bob House but it is because it is good food at reasonable prices and one does not have to battle the owner or the waitress to get it. All the best.
