And the current troops. As well as those who support the troops and veterans today. May they be in God's hands.

Question Is the Wright Museum involved today?

If you're near Wolfeboro's Morrisey's Front Porch Restaurant nearing an early dinner time, and if you see an all-white Ford Explorer parked to the right of the entrance, stop by and thank my Dad today. (Or any day, for that matter).

In WW2, he had five PBY patrol aircraft shot out from under him in the SW Pacific.

With two sore knees, he walks slowly, but steadily. He will be there today with his wife, and is a "regular" there. (And doesn't know of my request of the forum...pssst...he has one hearing aid). Forgot...BOTH served in the military!

P.S.: Ask him how WW2 would have proceeded without Admiral Halsey whom, while off-duty, my Dad knocked-out cold!

This morning, Dad says "Hi" to Samiam and says "the help" is doing a super job at running the place!

Default What Veterans Day means to me

Today, I think of my dad and how he never complained about the damage to his body caused in WW-II in the pacific.

I think of my Uncle (mothers brother-in-law) that lost a brother on D-Day, had a brother MIA in Italy and found after the war in a German POW camp and a brother damaged by the horrors of battle in Italy.

I think of childhood friend KIA in Vietnam and of my friends and fellow soldiers who died in Southeast Asia.

I have included below the copy of an e-mail I sent my son serving as a USMC Lt and my son-in-law, a USMC Staff Sgt and Senior crew chief....... both of them heading off to war in 2010

...............

Pat and Shawn,

Let me take a minute today to express my pride, support and heartfelt THANK YOU to both of you for your service to the country I love, and the family we belong too.

The sacrifice that you have already made Shawn, being away from family on three combat deployments and that both of you will experience in 2010 is a testament to the character and patriotism of your both.

As a veteran of that sacred oath 45 years ago, I stand proud to salute you both

Be safe my sons

Love , Dad

I say my thanks by not saying much here at all. I instead think sliently, like all the great soldiers I have known in my life who never once spoke of what they had to endure. They did it for the love of their country and to provide a future for their families.

May my Father, Uncles and Cousins All Rest In Piece

And to those Cousins, and the Uncle still with me..... Thank You..........

Default Add my thanks to all who have served

.... and to my boyfriend who served in VietNam and put on his uniform this morning to participate in Veteren's Day activities in the town in which he lives. He goes to the VA every week to help the Vets there who are in need.

Those who serve and have served are very special!

Default Fitting Words

I don't know who said these words, but they sure seem fitting...

"It's the Soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press.

It's the Soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.

It's the Soldier, not the politicians. that ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

It's the Soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag..."

My sincerest heartfelt respect and thanks to all the men and women serving, past and present, in our armed forces.

Semper Fi;

Dan

I Thank All Veterans from all branches for their service during times of war and in peace.

I thank my brother, a Navy Corpsman, for his service and for the many heroic actions he performed while in Viet Nam in saving the lives of the wounded. Many times above the call of duty.

For the Vets who suffer from PTSD for all that they have given in their service to our country. I have personally known and talked with the heroic men from Nam and the Gulf War. They deserve our gratitude for their sacrifice. Today there are more soldiers with PTSD from the Iraq and Afganistan wars that also deserve our gratitude for their sacrifice.

I see our vets from all of our wars and conflicts in the halls everytime I go to the Manchester, NH VA. I salute everyone of them.

For all of those that gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives I salute you.

Without all of these brave soldiers and sailors we would not enjoy the freedoms we do today.

JS, USN OS3 1969-1975 Active and Reserves - USS Little Rock CLG4

I thank my Dad who served in North Africa keeping the electronics in the Air Force planes in working order.

I thank my brother who was a Marine running the spying computers in Europe at the bottom of a big dish. Sure to be an early target in any first strike.

Thank you to all of the brave Men and Women who are willing to be violent and do whatever it takes to keep us safe. We are proud and grateful.

Here is a picture taken on my father's boot camp graduation day in 1943. I wonder what he would have thought about his getting through three wars at the time that picture was being taken. He fought in WWII, Korea, And two tours of Vietnam. Recently passed from cancer.

Thank you to all the Veterans, living and gone before us. Especially my Dad!

Just got back from supper at one of my usual restaurants. Waitress came over and asked if I was a vet. I said "Yes, why?" She said "a gentleman at the bar would like to buy you a drink." What a nice guy. I'd just like to thank ALL the people who appreciate our service.

Default My Dad, A Proud WWII Veteran

Having just left a Manchester funeral home to arrange to have my Dad laid to rest tomorrow..I was so pleased to see this thread & to honor him and all Veterans...

He was a proud WWII veteran who at the age of 18 landed on Normandy shores so that you & I are free... in his late years we listened over & over to the same story and listened once again as he repeated it to the next ear that listened...I will miss hearing that story now.. & I pray you do be patient & listen to all vets & their tales as they are truly hero's...

My Dad, My hero, will be laid to rest with full military honors in the morning & I will make sure to Thank them tomorrow. The following day the 13th would have been his 85th birthday.

Happy Birthday Dad.& Thank you.

My Proud Veteran Dad is Ralph Holt.

Default Sorry for your loss, Jack

Please accept my condolences.

I attended the Moultonborough Central School's Veteran's Day Ceremony to honor vets. My daughter had asked both of her grandfathers to attend. What a nice honor to these veterans- I spoke with a WW2 vet, a pilot named Eddie, great guy.

I thank all vets, young and old, for your service to our great country.

Sure can't say it any better than the previous posts here...but mine and all my family's thanks! I have two grandsons--one Army;one Air Force--currently serving, and I so appreciate the words of support, as do all of us...those with loved ones in harm's way, and all loyal Americans. I took advantage of Applebee's free entree's for active duty and veterans last night in Derry. The place was packed and the majority were veterans. I sat at the bar with an Air Force veteran. Had a great time.

The free entree's was a great thing that they did for those who serve and have served.

To Jack1706, Sorry for your lost and a big thank you to your father for his service. But, do not worry, that story will never go away. My grandfather passed a year and a half ago, I still think about his stories of when he served in WWII in the CBI theater as a Batallion Runner. They are alive with you now and it is your chance to pass those stories on to your children and family members. Those stories along with my grandmothers, (his wife) cousins husband Renee Gagnon will never be forgotten. I did not even know of the relation until I read the book Flags of Our Fathers and was talking about it with my grandmother.

Please accept our condolences on your father' passing.

He sounds like the motivation that Tom Brokaw used for the phrase "The Greatest Generation".

Thank you Mr Holt. We truly appreciate your service.

My Dad was a bomber pilot in WW2, My uncle was wounded on Iwo Jima, My Grandfather was artillery in the Yankee Division in WWI as well as a Major recuiting in WW2, and my other Grandfather was in the trenches in France in WWI. My GGGrandfather was a Sergeant in the Union Army during the Civil War!

I lost my Dad this year but he's at peace now with the love of his life, my Mom.

I am eternally grateful to these, my ancestors and family, and all other veterans for the defense of our freedom!

I went too, to the Applebee's in Bedford. The place was also packed and the waitress said they had a very busy day. To Applebee's management and staff: thanks for the "Thanks"! It's nice to be appreciated, something that I saw very little of when I returned from Vietnam in 1971.

Default Happy for you Jack

It brought tears to my eyes when they blew Taps for my Uncle, a bombardier in WW2 in the Pacific. My dad is soon to be 87, he was a P51 Mustang pilot flying out of England to parts unknown. It was only in recent years that he told us any stories of the war. They all worked their arses off for this country.

Elly, I feel for you. VN was a different time, a bad time, bad circumstances. But as always, paid for either way by the armed forces. I trust today people have a better understanding of the vast differences between politics and the soldier's missions. It seems they do, and I hope so.

Welcome back
