There was a corporate reorganization but it was pretty much public knowledge and nothing different than any other hospital in the area is experiencing due to the current economy.
I believe they made all of their rooms into single patient beds, as they are also now a critical access hospital. Due to privacy laws (HIPPA) and what the insurance companies will pay for, single bed rooms make sense - even just from an infection control standpoint. Hospitals are top-heavy in administrators - it only makes sense that they recognize potential cost-savings by reorganizing from the top of a department down. This is a common business practice - you just don't think of it being a reality in healthcare. |
