I'm pretty sure it has at least one thruster. I saw it once in Wolfeboro many years ago and was amazed to see the thruster in operation.

Thought they gave the Mini Mount to the owners of the Big Mount. They had a big presentation ceremony too. Sorry to see them sell it.

The last I heard this boat (A functional Scale Model) has a pair of 350ci Chevys rated at about 260 hp each. No thrusters. Just sayin. NO cabin for real people..just a space for the "Pilot".

I know it holds more then a pilot, because my in-laws used to get a ride in every year. They are friendly with the old owners.

I can't recall how many years and hours that it took for the guys to build it, but it was a significant labor of love. I would have thought given that and the history and "draw" of it, that it would go for more than $30k...

If only I had the money, it would look great tied up at Pine Island as the big Mount goes motoring by on a Saturday evening!!!

The attached article fro last year states that the Winnepesaukee Flagship Corporation had acquired the mini mount http://www.fosters.com/apps/pbcs.dll...CITNEWS04ation has acquired the mini mount last year.

It's pretty cool indeed. But if it's true that there's really no cabin, and limited room inside. Who would want, or could have, a 49' boat that's good for nothing except looking cool and an occasional cruise?

I could picture a couple of staterooms, bar, media room, capable of cruising the lake with 10 people or so. If not, it's a novelty.

Interesting that the parent company of the real Mount wants to sell it so soon. Probably same reasons.

I like the Mini Mount for what it "is". A tremendous testament to a family's love and sacrifice to honor a ship most of us also hold in high regard.

I would prefer to have the Mini Mount on permanent display as a tourist and educational attraction in the lakes area. If NH ever has a casino it would be a great object to have in the public areas to perhaps encourage people to explore the real Mount and our great lakes region.

Looking at the picture of the Mini out of the water there is a Large Dark "SPOT" about a 1/3 of the way aft. This would NOT be a place where you would put a thruster. When this boat was built..thrusters were not commom....if they existed at all. Thrusters are usually in the BOW..hence the term Bow Thruster. They Walk the bow to port or starboard during docking.

It saddens me that the original owner, who was concerned that Selling the Model, it might end up in the woods five years later, decided that donating the Model to a responsible ..entity..would prevent this from happening. .............SCREWED.

As it turns out, when you donate something to a Museum, ..You have to agree that THEY have the option to SELL your donation later for CASH. When a museum descides your donated artifact is not worth keeping..and they descide to SELL it.....They will offer YOU..the original DONER..first option to BUY the artifact back...............

That's the way it is.

How do i know this...??

The reason for this practice is that some people would Donate JUNK..for a Tax Benefit...and the Museum needs to cover themselves. Maybe they already have a better example of this artifact in a storeroom. Problem is..this policy covers VALUABLE Artifacts as well. NB

I saw the trusters in operation while waiting to get back into Back Bay. I was amazed and pointed it out to my onboard passengers. Take another look at all the images and you will see where they are located. They are about 1/4 of the way aft at most.

Look at the hull design, that is the furthest point forward that you could logically put a thruster. Also, bow thrusters have been around for a very long time, they are not a recent invention, not to mention they can also be retrofitted.

Thanks for the info guys. Sure looks strange seeing such a big hole so far aft....and at the full beam of the model. Another thing, as a modeler myself, Scale and Accuracy is very important. The Full Scale Mount doesn't have thrusters does it..?

Thrusters are quite popular on Jet Drive boats like the Hinkley Picnic Boat because Jet Drives handle poorly during docking maneuvers. A Twin Screw boat on the other hand can be backed and filled and turned in it's own length by a skilled pilot. Having thrusters on a twin screw boat seems to me like a lazy alternative to learning seamanship and boat handling.

However, I can see the need on the Mini Mount because I suspect the skipper has a real visibility problem when docking, what with being cooped up inside.

Suddenly we are all talking about thrusters...what's the deal with SELLING her? She was a gift to the company correct? Then one year later the company sells her for$30K? That seems wrong, and I hope I am wrong is assuming the company is selling and not the previous owners. I hope that the company gave the boat back to the owners and said, "we cannot find a good use for her, so we are giving it back to you to sell."

Unfortunately, the Mini Mount is not insurable as a commercial vessel and it cannot be put into the water and used under the current ownership.

The previous owners declined to reestablish ownership and gave their blessing to Mount Washington Cruises to do what they need to do with her.

The NH Boat Museum seems like a perfect fit, but they too are unable to take The Mini Mount. At 49' she really is not so mini!

Ideas are being pursued on what will ultimately happen with this beautiful tribute to our beloved M/S Mount Washington.

Will she find a home back on the lake with a private owner? Or will she end up as an attraction or centerpiece in a protected location to be enjoyed for years to come? We will have to wait and see.

In the meantime, if you know of anyone that would enjoy owning the Mini Mount, please send them the link to Irvin Marine!

Wouldn't it be cool to own this piece of history and keep her on the lake?

Thanks RG for the update on the Mini Mount. Hopefully someone will step forward to preserve and keep her here. I know there are a number of people around the lake that have the resources to preserve her and I hope they step forward.

BTW: I checked recently while on business in Laconia and the Mini Mount is still at Irwin in the same location as I found her a few years back.

I have been on the boat. It does have a thruster, right where the dark spot is. If you look forward from that spot there is no place wide enough for the necessary tunnel and mechanical equipment.

Calling thrusters a lazy alternative is just wrong, Having owned two large flybridge cruisers I will tell you that docking in a windy situation is not always easy. The sheer size of the boat will catch a lot of wind and when you try to dock in tight places the additional manuverability is quite helpful.

All modern crise ships have both bow and stern thrusters and it is not because the captain was looking for a " lazy alternative to learning seamanship and boat handling". Many of the large cruisers on Winnipesaukee are equipped with bow thrusters (including the 53 Carver)

If you haven't owned or piloted one you just wouldn't know this.

Watching someone "Handle" a single OR twin screw "straight inboard" WELL, in close quarters, can be a Distinct Pleasure when the operator knows what they are doing. When they don't, it can be excruciating to watch.

My experience over the past 40 years, both as a boat owner, and observer, has been that as a general rule, the skipper with the larger boat is much more likely to be competent at handling his boat than one who has a smaller boat, primarily because the smaller boat operator is likely a comparative novice. However, if that smaller boat is a Varnished Mahogany Antique..OR the larger boat is their first McYacht, then all bets are off.

A sure fire way to identify a novice: ANY Size boat Underway ...not actually preparing to dock or undock, steaming along with fenders swinging merrily over the side in the spray.

...but evidently you never had the pleasure of going for a ride on the Mini Mount. My wife and I were guests on board, taking a cruise out Wolfeboro bay, down by Springfield point, over toward Clay Point and then back to its Wolfeboro dock. On our way back in, we motored along side the Mount on its trip into Wolfeboro.

The ride was very smooth, the detail on the boat is remarkable.

It really deserves a worthy new owner who will maintain it well, and enjoy taking it for rides, allowing others to photograph it as so many others have done in the past. It is a unique part of Winnipesaukee history.

Now if I can only hit those magic numbers tonight...

I agree, it belongs on the lake, just like the big Mount! I hope someone does buy it for just that purpose.

The Mini Mount throws a big wake. I almost got swamped once when I went by it. It is certainly a beautiful boat. I would feel like the princess of the lake ( the Mount Washington is the queen) if I owned it.

I guess we are looking for someone with disposable income to buy it as a novelty.

You can't take paying passengers if you can't get insurance. You can't even make paid appearences, no business insurance.

My guess is a business buys it as a decoration, strips out any valuable running gear and puts it on display.

BTW I have a 35' boat with no bow thruster, most of the time you don't need one. Every once in a while I would kill for one.

I think you are correct, and the funny thing is that I would have expected someone around the lake to have enough $$ that would really enjoy the novelty aspect and the "thrill and notariety" of touring around in it.

I think Merrymeeting has hit the nail on the head... I think many people for 30K wouldn't mind owning the mini-mount, I certainly know I would love the opportunity.

However, I don't have the tow vehicle to move it around, so that mean I need a marina to help. $$$ involved

Keeping the engine(s) running and in good shape.. $$$ invloved

Maintaining a dock space for the boat... $$$ involved, one has to find a suitable location, most likely at a Yacht club, or spending money updating a lakefront owners dock, in either case $$$

Insurance -- $$$ even as a private vessel insurance on a novelty item like this isn't cheap.

Operating costs --- day to day running cost to make sure she hits the lake 5-10 times a year...$$$

The bottom line, is being the boat is the easy part, maintaining it and make sure it gets out on the lake is expensive and hard part. Hence I haven't tried to look at it or, even considered making an offer.

When a person constructs something like this they do it out of love, and admiration. When they can't take care of it anymore they need to off load it. However finding someone that is willing to take care of it correctly is hard, unless you find someone that has the same love and admiration. The money to keep here afloat is considerable, and even if someone has deep pockets if they don't have the same love and admiration, she will be quickly sold, yet again....

Donating it to NHBM was looked into, but wasn't a viable solution given it's size.

If Pine Island or Bear Island Associations could take the Little Mount, would/could it be donated to them without the huge price tag?

It really would be great to keep her out on the lake!

While on business in the Lakes Region today I had the opportunity to go through Center Harbor and saw the Mini Mount there. One of the tarps covering the Mini Mount has come completly off the fantail and has exposed 4'-5'. Hopefully it will get recovered quickly

A heavy snow squall was passing through Center Harbor while I was there.

I am saddened that this wonderful craft is exposed to the winter elements and potential damage but still hopeful that an individual or organization comes forward and saves and preserves her.

Wouldn't it be a great boat parked at the dock at Church Landing. There are numerous weddings there. It would be a great boat for the wedding couple or the wedding party. Rusty should buy it .

She would look perfect moored behind Light #4 off Pine Island where the Big Mount would pass by daily...

However I haven't yet been able to figure out how to get the funds together (I briefly considered some high end criminal activity, but have a guilty conscience and definitely don't have the nerve!).

I sincerely hope that someone on the Lake that would value and enjoy her, is the buyer…

I would have thought given that and the history and "draw" of it, that it would go for more than $30k... A tremendous testament to a family's love and sacrifice to honor a ship most of us also hold in high regard. I would prefer to have the Mini Mount on permanent display as a tourist and educational attraction in the lakes area. If NH ever has a casino it would be a great object to have in the public areas to perhaps encourage people to explore the real Mount and our great lakes region.

As it turns out, when you donate something to a Museum, ..You have to agree that THEY have the option to SELL your donation later for CASH. When a museum descides your donated artifact is not worth keeping..and they descide to SELL it.....They will offer YOU..the original DONER..first option to BUY the artifact back............... That's the way it is. How do i know this...?? The reason for this practice is that some people would Donate JUNK..for a Tax Benefit...and the Museum needs to cover themselves. Maybe they already have a better example of this artifact in a storeroom. Problem is..this policy covers VALUABLE Artifacts as well. NB

Sure looks strange seeing such a big hole so far aft....and at the full beam of the model. Another thing, as a modeler myself, Scale and Accuracy is very important. The Full Scale Mount doesn't have thrusters does it..? Thrusters are quite popular on Jet Drive boats like the Hinkley Picnic Boat because Jet Drives handle poorly during docking maneuvers. A Twin Screw boat on the other hand can be backed and filled and turned in it's own length by a skilled pilot. Having thrusters on a twin screw boat seems to me like a lazy alternative to learning seamanship and boat handling. However, I can see the need on the Mini Mount because I suspect the skipper has a real visibility problem when docking, what with being cooped up inside. NB

Suddenly we are all talking about thrusters...what's the deal with SELLING her? She was a gift to the company correct? Then one year later the company sells her for$30K? That seems wrong, and I hope I am wrong is assuming the company is selling and not the previous owners. I hope that the company gave the boat back to the owners and said, "we cannot find a good use for her, so we are giving it back to you to sell."

When they don't, it can be excruciating to watch. My experience over the past 40 years, both as a boat owner, and observer, has been that as a general rule, the skipper with the larger boat is much more likely to be competent at handling his boat than one who has a smaller boat, primarily because the smaller boat operator is likely a comparative novice. However, if that smaller boat is a Varnished Mahogany Antique..OR the larger boat is their first McYacht, then all bets are off. A sure fire way to identify a novice: ANY Size boat Underway ...not actually preparing to dock or undock, steaming along with fenders swinging merrily over the side in the spray. NB .

My wife and I were guests on board, taking a cruise out Wolfeboro bay, down by Springfield point, over toward Clay Point and then back to its Wolfeboro dock. On our way back in, we motored along side the Mount on its trip into Wolfeboro. The ride was very smooth, the detail on the boat is remarkable. It really deserves a worthy new owner who will maintain it well, and enjoy taking it for rides, allowing others to photograph it as so many others have done in the past. It is a unique part of Winnipesaukee history. Now if I can only hit those magic numbers tonight... __________________ I Live Here... I am always UPTHESAUKEE !!!!

I guess we are looking for someone with disposable income to buy it as a novelty. You can't take paying passengers if you can't get insurance. You can't even make paid appearences, no business insurance. My guess is a business buys it as a decoration, strips out any valuable running gear and puts it on display. BTW I have a 35' boat with no bow thruster, most of the time you don't need one. Every once in a while I would kill for one.

One of the tarps covering the Mini Mount has come completly off the fantail and has exposed 4'-5'. Hopefully it will get recovered quickly A heavy snow squall was passing through Center Harbor while I was there. I am saddened that this wonderful craft is exposed to the winter elements and potential damage but still hopeful that an individual or organization comes forward and saves and preserves her. __________________ Just Sold At the lake the stress of daily life just melts away.
