Default Lowe's ???

Is a Lowe's big box home & garden center planned for that spot in Gilford, from my recollection of an old thread in this forum? A Lowe's is planned for the exit 26, Tenny Mt Hgwy, cow-chow, corn field, across Rt 25 from the stop lights. I'll tell you, there is a big difference between the Home Depot in Somerville, Mass. and the Home Depot in Tilton, NH in terms of busy-ness and dizzy-ness.

Cool I Can Probably Find Out...

My girlfriend works in commercial real estate. Her company owns the strip mall in Gilford so she's pretty familiar with the area. I'll find out about the Lowe's and about the site of the old Jackson Star and get back to this post.

We joke that her career revolves around putting up retail stores wherever she can find a place for them. And I make it abundantly clear to "stay as far away from the lake as possible." She knows how I (and everyone at Winnipesaukee.com) feel and knows there are certain areas she should just walk away from.

She has my mind, body, and soul, but she's not getting my (our) lake too.

The current plan is for Hannaford, Lowe's and Staples with the addition of a national chain like Chili's (hasn't been named yet). Lowe's will be around 170,000 SF and will probably have to wait until the cinema's lease is up.

Last I knew, the site plan was approved by the planning board (haven't heard of any changes with the exception of naming Staples), and it looks like everything is proceeding.

For years I thought that it would be great to see a West Marine store in that location. After visiting Sports and Marine Parafunalia today (and not for the first time either), I am happy that no such thing will likely ever happen. SMP gets my vote for selection and price (at least on the items I'm interested in ).

For the most part I find their prices to be comparable or below the catalog prices of West Marine/BoatUS and no shipping or sales tax to boot I picked up some docklines yesterday for $2 - $4 less than WM would have charged. I wonder if they still do a red dot sale ?

I doubt very much the area will see a Macy's any time soon. Their kind of middle/upper end clothes and things, just do not see the area supporting it. Believe me no offense intended, I like the area the way it is.

Plus, there is a Peebles in the Belknap Mall which is similar (albiet on a smaller scale) to Macy's or Filene's.

West Marine/Boat/US are actively looking at two spots in the lakes region, one to be a free-standing store and the other to be tied in with a marina. I have an inside scoop on this from a relative who is a long-time employee of the company. I am all for it!

I enjoyed a Pumpkin Latte there a few weeks ago while doing some holiday shopping with the family.

Went back two days later just to have another one!

MMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Samiam - I can relate to your wife's addiction! I'm a coffee girl, though, and heaven help us if we run out of beans for the cuisinart coffee-maker!
Keep back 500 Feet until I've had my coffee in the morning.

Default I agree with Phoenix....

A Home Depot in each Tilton and Concord; a new Lowe's about to open in Tilton. Forgive me for asking, but why open another Lowe's, as Phoenix asked, so close to another? While it may be more convenient for those in Meredith, Alton, Gilford and Laconia -- everyone else is probably closer to Tilton or Concord. Folks from the northern side of the lake can just as easily travel to Tilton as to Gilford.

But then again, my husband and I live in Gilford and buy all groceries at Market Basket in Tilton -- we refuse to shop at Shaw's or Hannaford in Gilford unless an emergency...the prices in off-season are high enough, but in the summer the prices are ridiculously high. The prices are MUCH less at MB year-round and quite worth the extra 10 miles each way.

I wouldn't doubt that more large sports/marine/Outdoor stores start looking into the New England market. It was announced earlier this month that Bass Pro will be building their first New England store in Foxboro somewhere near the staduim.

Thumbs up Victoria Secret!

170,000 sq ft.??????

If all the women of Winnipesaukee were to wear Victoria Secret line of clothing. The whole lake will become a no wake zone. Everyone will be put putting along the shores taking in the eye candy. Maybe that will solve all our problems!!!!

We have to make sure the store carrys the Winnipesaukee line of clothing...........
