A single hook (hard to find) 1/16 oz. Rooster Tail, black in color with a worm on it has always worked for me. Like this one... http://www.walmart.com/ip/Rooster-Ta...16-oz/19716444

Don't be afraid to cast live bait on bobber either!

i often cast out form the shore, about what distance between the worm hook and the bobber would work, In some areas off my beach or dock, 100 feet out is only about 7 feet or less

also what is the best time to be fishing with the worm and then also the rooster tail

I guess it would depend on how deep the water is where you are casting but if your fishing from a dock there has to be 3-4 feet of water. I would put the bobber at least 3' from the hook.

As far as best time to fish, in my opinion early morning (sunrise or earlier) would be best simply because of no boat traffic or other things driving fish from the shallows. I don't think you are going to catch a salmon or lake trout that close to shore in that shallow water this time of year but you may pick up a rainbow, bass, white perch, yellow perch, etc, etc.

My advice is just have fun with it and see what happens!

Crank baits, jerk baits, or Texas rigged plastics will catch LM Bass, SM Bass, Pickerel, and Crappies.

I caught some monster small mouth in Paugus using Hellgrammites. Fish about 100 yrds or so off the islands, in about 25-30 feet of water.

Just hook em through the neck and let them swim freely. These have worked when no lure would!
