I can second Harmony remotes. I have 2 of these and they work great. Have multiple devices (DVD, Apple TV and Amazon Prime, plus cable and over the air HD) and they are easy to program for various activities and devices.

Then with he remote plugged in via USB cable you answer questions for each device and each activity. Then save. Later if you add a device it is just an add on to the saved data. |

A little off topic, but a client of mine developed a product called the BUTTON BLOCKER, which hides buttons on the remote control. Great for kids or adults who are frustrated by pressing the wrong button.

Or, if you have a recent smartphone with the right capabilites, it can be used as a smart remote.
I use AnyMote on my Samsung Galaxy 5 and it works great. http://colortiger.com/ |

It would be nice to see tv clickers go extinct ....... i.e. disappear from the local scene just like the payphone has disappeared. Used to be ....many many years ago....one had to get up off the couch, or up and out of the recliner...to change the tv channel.....and the people of the United States were much healthier and less fat, in better physical shape....due to the exercise from getting up to change the channel.
Wouldn't it be nice for this country to return to those pre-clicker days and just totally eliminate the clicker so's everyone would have to get up to change the channel without having a remote to click. Some one presidential candidate should make that a big part of his or her campaign.......you know......Vote for me, and there will be no clickers! Seems like Bernie Sanders out of all the candidates could be a potential for this issue? Like, why do we really need clickers, ladies and gentlemen? Aren't we good enough to go change the channel without a clicker! The Donald would say something like 'that's crazy, just fuhgetaboutit! If you don't want a clicker, then you will be shipped back to where you came from......permanently......and very fast! Hillary would support a clicker for everyone in the room....multiple clickers....and a monthly clicker tax to give a clicker to the homeless. Ben Carson would be un-opinionated at this time and need some more time to reflect on this clicker issue. And, Joe Biden would say; not my problem....go do whatever you want to do yourself with the clicker! And, Mitt Romney could not be located to get a reply?

Voice recognition is getting pretty good now, so why can't we throw out our remotes and just talk to our entertainment center? Every component I have seems to have one function that requires that remote stick around. If there was a device where I could say "turn on the Patriots" or "turn down the volume" or "fast forward through the commercials", I'd be first in line to buy it.
