Great looking building and a wonderful addition to the area!!

Kudos to the Architect for his design and to Harvey Construction for having one of the cleanest and organized job sites I have ever seen. Never even saw a single piece of paper blowing around!

What a waste of money.

We drove through Laconia, Gilford and West Alton today and it looks like the area is struggling...

Good thing MP has a fancy new building at our expense.

Care to explain why this is a waste? Or just an opinion? As someone that looks at this building all season long, I am grateful for the state's approach to its construction. It "fits" the lake and is a tremendous improvement to the area.

As a lifetime boater on Winnipesaukee, I am impressed and proud of the building and glad the state erected a building worthy of being on the shore of our greatest natural resource.

Sure as hell beats their crumbling concrete building and the Quonset hut that was Glendale Marine (no offense to the staff of either building).

And cudo's to the state for the facelift they gave Hampton Beach a few years ago. We have facilities that we can be proud of and that contribute to the recreation economy of the state.

To some extent I have to agree with Seaplane Pilot.

I think the building is gorgeous, rather resort-looking. That being said, it does look a bit more "coastal" in design. I think a nice large Adirondack lodge look would have been more fitting.

Not sure about the other posters post about the area being depressed...The lake is busy, marinas are full, restaurants are packed, and good luck trying to find a rental on the water these days...Everything is booked up.

Believe this new MP-HQ building will be named in honor of the late David Barrett, MP-commander, and the colors blue, white, and gray seems very appropriate for a Winnipesaukee waterfront, state government building that will likely be in use for many, many, many years.

And don't forget, you save five bucks off the price of your boat registration when you go to the 'five dollar window' in the new MP-HQ as opposed to going to a local marina, or local town hall. Maybe install a permanent sign outside the new MP building ...... "We do registrations for less .... Save 5-bucks!"

Looks like any number of McMansions around the lake (for good or for bad), so I guess it 'fits in'.

But can you get there with your [yet] unregistered/expired boat? "But officer, I was just heading to the fi-dolla window."

Just curious how you determined that the Gilford, West Alton areas are struggling? What economic data are you looking at?

I am curious as to why you didn't include the rest of the lake in you assessment as the Marine Patrol supports the entire lake. For example, how is the economy in Meridith, Wolfeboro, Alton...etc.

Basically what is your issue?

Is it where the marine patrol building is being built? Should it have been built in Meridith or Wolfeboro?
Is it the cost of the building?
Is it the fact that they are building a new building at all?

Default Nice Building

I am not a fan of the government building oversized monuments to themselves(my experience in many Massachusetts towns). That said, the old MP building really had become obsolete and needed to be replaced. The new building is, IMHO, nicely done and blends in very well. The MP needed a new facility and I'm glad it shaped up the way it has.

The architecture of the new Marine Patrol building belongs on Cape Cod, or somewhere else on the ocean. It does not fit the lake's Adirondack style, in my opinion.

A design similar to the Meredith Bay Condos or the Lake House in Meredith would have looked and fit in much better.

I see and understand your post. Natural/stained shakes is a nice look for one's summer or year round home but I think they chose the colors for a different reason.
My observation is that the color blue is for water (or maybe their police function), the grey is the color of the patrol boats with white representing the clouds over the water. Only my opinion but I think it does fit. Also remember they are not only replacing the 2 poor condition structures that were on this site. They are also replacing the large building on Rt 106 in Belmot so everything will now be in one location.
