Insurance Agent/Agency Recommendation

I did not find a recent similar request and turning to my Forum friends for advice. I am looking for a local lakes region area insurance agent and reputable agency who will provide excellent customer service and offer the best coverage for our homeowners, auto and watercraft policies. Thanks.

Saltmarsh agency in Mass. Is a good choice. Not local but owner owns property on Spindle Point. We were neighbors for 30 years. He was once state rep. In Mass. Good people.

We have had insurance with AMICA for decades. They actually wrote us a commercial policy for a condo at Maushop in New Seabury in 1980. AMICA did not write commercial policies at that time. Amica insures our autos, a house in MA and the condo at Winnipesaukee and an umbrella policy. They do write boat insurance but our boat is insured through BOAT/US. They have been very good to us over the years as they have bent over backwards for us on occasion. Very nice to deal directly with the company instead of an agent.

Another vote for Amica. They have our home, autos, boats and umbrella policy. Claims service is fast, fair and hassle free.

My local ins co. (Hingham Mutual) stopped writing policies in N.H. My agency found new company for 30% more than last year. Thought I would explore Moultonborough area for quote. Cross came in at 275% more than Hingham was last year. Shop well.

I'd stay away from Melcher and Prescott based upon my brief experience. Just signed up and may have to make a change.

I second REILLY's comment about, 'Insurance Outlet', they have provided me excellent service over the years. As they are an Independent Agent they can recommend many insurance companies for your specific needs at the best price.

Saved a ton when I moved my home, rental property, auto, boat and umbrella policies there. They aren't an agency, but have excellent and responsive customer service. Previously, I used Avery Insurance Agency out of Wolfeboro. Nice people, but every three years i had to complain to get them to shop insurance because of large increases.

BTW, Amica is a mutual Company, and if you elect the participating policies (a little more than the non-participating policies), there is a 10-15% dividend back at the end of each policy year.

I would strongly suggest that you contact your agent to discuss the new policy if you have not already. Updating the new policy to include things such as renovation updates (Roof, wiring, plumbing and heating) or modifying your current deductible (this may or may not be an option for you, depending on what your current deductible is) could lead to substantial savings. We're looking at my mother-in-law place as a rental. The liability will be high, we're thinking at a least a million. Are any of these insurance agencies good for rentals.

My new policy with AMICA contains a 50% increase in coverage over the previous policy with another company and cost $30 more than the previous.
I call that very good. And don't forget you don't have to haggle with an agent who is more concerned about their commission than anything else.
I had an accident when a young lady ran a red light. I was able to almost stop and hit her rear bumper. Her company blamed me for 50% in order to avoid a huge outlay for their client. Lady behind me had her attorney son write a letter stating I did not move until the light was green. AMICA repaired my car and pursued collecting from the other copany.

I am in the insurance industry and I have found Amica to be high in NH yes. Now that being said there are so many variables in insurance so what is high for 1 person may be much lower for another person.

Our 2014 pickup and 2007 Lexus is $892 before the rebate with Amica. All in, I saved over $2k before the rebate over incumbent Metlife and quotes from Liberty Mutual, nationwide, farmers, and one other I can't remember. Just goes to show you need to shop from time-to-time.

See what I am saying. I just quoted one Subaru this week that was $1100 a year with them with $1000 comp and collision deductibles and no rental. Insurance is not the same price across the board even within the same company.

Variables including your driving history (and the history of all listed persons on the policy), year/make/model of vehicle, and don't forget this one...your credit history.

All the way down to your county and zip code but I agree that credit ( insurance score ) is a big factor.

When choosing an insurance company, it's important to consider not just the annual premium but (even more important in my opinion) the company's claims handling reputation. An insurance policy with a low premium is no bargain if it is issued by a carrier that has a poor reputation for handling claims.

Also, with respect to auto insurance, a friend who had a career in the insurance business has told me that some insurance carriers who advertise low annual premiums will not pay for replacement parts made by the car's original manufacture, but will only pay for aftermarket, or in some cases even used, replacement parts for collision repairs. So, make sure you read your policy.

Insurance policies generally only pay for manufacture replacement parts when an additional premium applies. Having said that I have Manufacture replacement parts on my cars, high value cars. The premium with AMICA is $950.00 for the SL. Very high coverage for my situation.

I thought it painfully obvious that the O. P., while asking about an insurance agent or agency, was in fact looking for "the best coverage", etc. Since Amica does not have agents, I and others provided the information about Amica.

$950 for the SL? WOW! Try $109 for the LS including mechanical and trailer coverage!

Thanks to all for your helpful suggestions! We have had insurance coverage through a local agency since 1998. It was a family run agency, but changed names 3 times since 1998.

I always felt they shopped around to provide us with the best coverage for our home and within the past 1-2 years, we added auto and watercraft policies.

I don't recall that we have ever submitted a claim through them until recently. They will not be paying the claim based on an understanding of our homeowners coverage I had with them in 2014. The company had undergone another name change and we moved here as our primary residence. The original people I talked to are no longer with the company. There is nothing in writing, no recorded phone calls, etc.

As one poster noted, a company is only as good as in the manner they process claims.

Thank you again for all of your recommendations. I will research the most promising ones. We'd like to go with a company who has a great reputation and one that will revisit potential policy changes with us to ensure we make the best selections for our situation especially when they have a name and personnel changes.
