We'll be at the Lake in a few days and I am wondering if there is any Chicago style pie available, and if so, how good it is?

Also, what is the best "east coast" style pie available near Gilford/Laconia?

Elacoya Barn and Grill just across from the state park has the best pizza in the Gilford / Laconia area in my opinion.

Give Rossi's a try. Located on Rt. 104 in NewHampton. I believe they are open for dinner only 4:00?? Spoke to the owner a few weeks back, little old Italian lady, and her 2 sons. She stated that they have been there for over 25 years. Gotta be doing something right! Awsome Italian pizza!

We really like White Mountain Pizza in New Hampton. We've had it several times and it has always been excellent. It's in the plaza across from the post office...very handy coming off the highway with "starving" children!

This summer I've fallen in love with the pizza at Tamarack-Out-Back (behind the Tamarack). I grew up on NY pizza and this is the closest I've found around here.

The answer is simple - you cannot.

There are plentry of greek style options (some of which are pretty good) - but if there is an option for a good thin crust that is lightly to moderately greasy that would be great.

Surprised no one mentioned the Pine cone, in Melvin Village. I think their pizza is awesome. I also had a pizza special a while back at the North End in Moultonborough. I know they do not specialize in it but it was actually so good I thought about going back later that night and getting another one, just so it could sit in my fridge for a snack the next day.....Just another couple options.

The sourdough flatbread pizza at Tavern 27 is the best I've ever had. They have two for one pizza on Tues. Don't try to box one and take it home. They will charge you for the box

For regular teen-age type pizza, The Laconia House of Pizza been a stand by for years.

For Gourmet pizza, you would have to travel to ManchVegas for '900 Degrees' creation.

If heading for Logan airport, at the first exit after the tunnel, there is a pizza place with the best thin crust pizza. First time I ever like anchovies.

I had great pizza at the 'Red Blazer' in Concord. Trouble is it was a special and they don't carry it on their menu.

It's actually in Peabody, in the former Bennigan's location. I would stick with the East Boston location or just get take-out. The "dining in" experience at the new location leaves something to be desired.

They have that ubiquitous tip-jar on top of the register. THIS is the ONLY tip-jar on the planet that I contribute to!!! It's take-out food.

This is one of my favorite finds. This is where locals go for their food...And it's very, very good. If you asked a local plumber, electrician, carpenter, etc. this is what they'd recommend.

It's run by a local family and one of the son's plays in "One of the best bands in New Hampshire" according to an article on their wall. They also sell a cd of the band's music. You'll always be served by a member of the immediate family.

In addition to subs (best around, IMHO), great pizza, they have stuff like veal parm., spaghetti & meatballs, etc. San Francisco is maybe 3,000% larger in population than Meredith, and I can't get an Italian sub here like Taylor's makes.

Not much of a dine-in. More a take-out.

I would be interested in other's opinion of this place.

We did not like the sauce/style on pizza at Heat. There was lots of cheese but it did not cover up the awful sauce. We might go back and try other food because as noted they offer live music and karaoke.

Next time we plan to try the Mug. We regretted getting subs after seeing others get the pizza. It looked fantastic!

Louie's Pizza at Olde Province Common in Meredith was sold recently, and the new owner, Scott, planned to take over operations on January 1st!

I understand that there are no major plans to change the business, but the Nassis decided it was time to retire. Best of luck to them!

So very sorry to hear this...have been talking this place up to people for years. Simply the best (no Lakes Region qualification needed..the best, end of story). I hope the new owner keeps things the same. Talk about toppings...you could never see the cheese. Covered. Normally, I am a three to four slice guy...but no way to eat more than two of their slices. And consistent...as their were no employees. It was just him and his wife. Same every time.
Ruins my day to find out. Every year, when we open camp second weekend in May, after a long day of "opening day work", I head down to Louis to grab a pizza. For 6 years, it has been our first meal of the season. I always look forward to seeing her smiling face, as I walked in, and the screen door clacked behind me. Oh well....

As soon as I heard this I went there to get a pizza yesterday to try it out. Too bad it was Monday and they were closed. I had to settle for Murphys pizza. It's not bad but it's no Louis, that's for sure! They do have a 2 pizza special during the winter though.....2, 1 topping pizzas for $14.99.

I actually ASKED about the recipe when Louie and Sue told me on Christmas Eve... the new owner plans no changes, so Louie must have sold the sauce too! He was also there, in the back kitchen, so I got the impression that he was Louie's understudy for a while.

I also asked about the decor. As anyone who has been in, there is a whole collection of Coca-Cola collectibles, bottle art, etc. Most aren't worth real money, but customers have brought them in from around the world to contribute. The collection will stay, as well.

At the beginning I would have agreed with you Rusty and yes it can get annoying but with the way the economy is these days many of the small business owners are just trying to get by so putting a quick plug in about your business doesn't bother me. Baygo does seem to take advantage of every chance he gets to put a plug in about his business but as a small business owner myself it is hard not to do the same. Just my 2 cents

Our webmaster Don has stated in the past that Baygo's response is perfectly acceptable. He does not want a restaurant owner starting a thread like "we have the best pizza in the LR" but is fine with responses to queries.

That works for me.

IMHO it sure is a good way to get free advertising.

Can you imagine what this would do if all restaurant owners took advange of this freebie.

Example: I start a thread called "Good steak in the Lakes Region" and then maybe around 100 lakes region restaurants post how good their steaks are and then post their website.

Maybe the rule should be changed to "Advertisements (including lost & found) of any kind are not allowed (unless answering to a query)"

I was going to make that exact same point VitaBene. The favorites of forum members are usually those restaurants that are good dining establishments. I can assure you that I have no personal connection to any owner of any restaurant in the area. I have my "favorites," The Village Kitchen, Bobhouse, Lyons Den, and now Tavern 27 to name a few are my favorites because of hugely positive experiences at these establishments.

It's pretty simple, if you do a good job and please your customers you will end up with great reviews and positive comments. There is no conspiracy at work here.

You are right "VitaBene". The webmaster stated that stand alone ad’s are not permitted but replies to service questions are OK.

Okay, most of the pizza around here is dreadful. I work in Meredith, am surrounded by pizza places and unimpressed. We think best pizza around is now at Wolf City Pizza in Wolfeboro, on Railroad Ave, near Ooh La La crepe restaurant (which is also terrific). Barbara, the owner of Wolf City, has a wood burning pizza oven imported from Italy. The pizza is completely fantastic, just like in Rome. Second best, in our opinion, is Flatbread & Company up in Conway and in Portsmouth-great, organic pizza. Third choice is The Pine Cone-try their spicy sausage, it's pretty good. But Wolf City, which just opened at end of January is really, really good. Call ahead, they will have pizza ready for you when you get there, then sit down and have some chianti ... yummo

So back on topic here:

I had my first Pizza taste experience with the "Pine Cone" on Saturday night. We were at some friends house last Saturday and they live in Suissevale. We were discussing where to get Pizza and they suggested the "Pine Cone" in Tuftonboro. For those of you that do not know where it is, it is just beyond Melvin Village. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised. It was good Pizza! We did take out and I went along for the ride to go pick it up and I can say that the atmosphere of the Pine Cone looked pretty nice. I will be trying this place for dinner some time.

So if you are on that side of the lake Route 109 area give them a try for Pizza, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. FYI - The Pizza's themselves were larger than large.

Could anyone else who tried Wolf City Pizza post a reply? Our favorite, up to now, is the pizza at the Pine Cone Inn. But to be fair, we haven't tried many. Nothing like a good pie!

With no disrespect to the new owners of Louis Nasis Famous Pizza, I must say it's not the same. My family and I have had pizza twice since the new owners and have found it to be a little off. The jury is still out on the flavor of the sauce , but the cheese is more noticeable with less and it's mixture of cheeses which gave it the Loui flavor.
In a different thread we rated Loui's pizza the best around before it sold, we would like to be able to say the same with the new ownership. We wish them luck and we'll be back soon...

It is brick oven style and very good if you like that style, which I do. Very thin crust, interesting toppings, not a typical american pizza. I actually think they might be healthy.

Not many people think of North Country Deli when it comes to pizza. They make awesome pies, nice thin crust with a sauce that's not too sweet. They are just north of Laconia downtown on the way to Parade Road.

I second the vote for North Country Deli's Pizza. For those of you who loved the pizza we used to make, theirs is as close a match as we have found. It's very similar, but rolled in flour, as opposed to cornmeal. Give 'em a try.

Well it's not Laconia but my favorite is a thin and crispy pizza as well. The Pine Cone in Melvin Village has great pizza. And will even do extra crispy if you so desire.

We were thrilled to learn that the Pine Cone is now serving pizza at their Wolfeboro location - Bayside Grill on Bay Street. Now we don't have to drive our takeout pizza home from Melvin Village at Mach 2!

Picked up a pizza Friday night at Wolfe City it was great. Nice thin crust... An easy stop on the way up, called from about St. Katharine's on 28 and it was ready when I got there. Will definitely do that again!

Wolfe City, Anthony's and the Greek place across the road from Anthony's (Greek style pizza) are all good IMO!

I have tried the Tuftonboro General Store pizza and it is very good. I highly recommend giving it a try. It is actually my favorite now; preferred over the Pine Cone. But it is not a traditional thin crust pizza so it is unfair really to compare the two as "pizzas". It is a pan pizza but not so far as a deep dish Chicago style pizza.

As one of the toppings, I recommend the onions. They're piled on but are sweet (vidalia?) onions and not overpowering at all. My preference is the onions and sausage as toppings. The better half likes it w/o toppings so we get it only on half. So I tried a plain slice once and as I recall, the sauce seemed to have a little "richness" (as in a tomato paste). Just a little side note/observation.

And it has no resemblance to Greek style pizza which to me is sour tasting and greasier.

Anyone that reads this post and tries the Tuftonboro General Store pizza, please add to this thread. I am one who loves a good pizza and enjoy sharing comments about it. I strongly urge any pizza lover to give it a try. Its just a real good (non-thin crust) pizza!

That shop is long out of business and was one of the first if not the first pizza shop in Laconia. It has been missed by me and others for a long time.

If you want a pizza that is very close to the old Paras style give Southend Pizza and Seafood a try on South Main St in Laconia. I suggest the small size for the Paras replica.

Oh, and the seafood is also great.

I loved 'Pizza by Paras'. I never tried Southend Pizza, i do use 'Laconia House of Pizza' when my grandkids are here. They deliver.

The convenience store next to LASC has great pizza. The selection is limited and so are the hours. They served Jordan's ice cream!

So far, the 'Pine Cone' and 'Bayside Grill' have the best pizza in the general area. Guiseppe's is a close second.
