IMO they are not that good either. I like the WB for many things but I believe that they over-vacuum their tips and screw up the texture (they use a vacuum tumbler to marinate). Hannafords across the street has pre-marinated tips that are better, though I prefer the tried and trued gallon ziplock method with home-made marinades.

Beef prices are through the roof right now......everything I'm getting from prime rib to chuck is up over two dollars a pound from our suppliers.
Some are trying to push Australian beef which is much cheaper but grass fed and very chewy.

Yup, we picked some up last weekend too. They were very good for sure, but the $13.99/lb sure did leave a bitter aftertaste.
You can buy a quality strip steak, ribeye or even porterhouse for less than that.
We prefer to buy flap meat fresh and cut it to size ourselves. You can get it in quantity at BJ's in Tilton. My wife makes a great marinade, but when we don't have a lot of time, we use Lawry's teriyaki marinade with pineapple juice. It's as good as most mainades at the butcher shops. And of course, you realize that they get the $13.99/lb for the marinade too!!

Just my opinion on a great marinade. Try "Soy Vay" marinade on your meats. Outstanding and available most everywhere.

I second soy vay. My MIL broils steak tips marinated overnight in that and it always comes out AWESOME.

Default We love their steak tips...

Love their steak tips. Just had them about a month ago. At about a 1/2 pound per person, the 4 of us can eat for $30 ish. Compare this to going to the Canoe. We just went there a couple weeks ago, and I thought they were VERY pricey, (in excess of $30 for a steak or prime rib...cant remember which one), and service was marginal. $30 for beef in Center Harbor, NH??? Really??

Of course, going out to dinner anywhere is more costly than eating at home, but bottom line is that I think WB's quality and flavor of meat is great, even at $13 / pound.

Default Costs a bit to run a store . . .

$3.99 - $8.99 Regional prices. I used to pick up a pound instead of going out to eat, as it was cheaper. Not so much, even though there are leftovers. For 10 extra dollars. I'll be served and still have left overs. And their tips are inconsistent. I can have a great one, and the hubs usually ends up with the chewy one.

But no doubt, I'll still go there when I have company.

Hello all. Spoke with a friend who works for Pineland farms. While he cannot directly speak to national beef companies he does have some insight. Most suppliers have had wholesale prices to retailers, move from mid 7's to nearly 10 a pound in the last few weeks alone. The reasons are multiple and mostly political. I'm not going there so you can do you own research. Suggest you start 10 years ago with ethanol and keep chasing from there. That being said our visits to butcher shops in Gilford, Alton, and New Durham have yielded similar results, so my thoughts are the local guys have no control, and are not raising prices to tick people off. I agree that denuded flap meat isn't worth half of what the ranches are selling it for. Soon we'll all have a few cows in our backyard at this rate!

I'll go there, when the government requires you to burn food for car fuel, prices go up, it's not rocket science people.

WOW. I just bought a bottle of "Soy Vey" and what a difference! The best marinade out there! Restaurant quality at home....

I wish they would just close instead of not making food after a certain time. I ordered wings 15 minutes before closing and they turned me down because it takes 20 minutes to make them.

Most places with a kitchen do that. Last seating at a restaurant is usually an hour before close.

Considering all the other stuff the WB sells, why would they close early just because they can't make kitchen items?

We were going there every weekend last year but the costs are just so high. So now we just marinade our own and it's just as good and a lot cheaper. If you have to get them already marinated the Hannafords marinated choices are pretty good and definitely cheaper...

Thank you so much! You really helped to make our B-B-Q a meal to remember. I bought sirloin steak on sale at Hannaford's, cut it into tips, marinated them in 1 gallon zip-lock bags, with the Soy Vay, Very Very Teriyaki marinade and they came out fantastic. That is a great product.

We went to Hannaford's this year. Saved $5.00 per pound on the steak tips. Nobody noticed the difference!

After reading this post, I had to try the Soy Vay Teriyaki Marinade. I purchased an Angus beef sirloin steak and cut it into equal size pieces. I then rubbed the pieces with Mrs. Dash steak blend spices. I placed the tips into a Ziploc bag and added the Soy Vay marinade. I let the tips marinate overnight turning them several times. I grilled the tips on high heat for about 9 minutes turning them often. The tips came out great. My wife said they were better than the tips we purchased at the WB.

I bought some steak tips there last week for $6.99 and I can't believe how tender they were. Lawry's marinades have no MSG etc. were on sale last week at Shaw's. I mix a bottle of 'mesquite' and 'herbs and garlic' to make the marinade. Soak the tips in the mixture for 4 hours. BBQ on low heat for an 1/2 hour and it was the best tasting, tender tips I have experienced!

So much for the Wineing Butcher, let them whine.

I used to love WB, but prices are just not worth the value. The ONLY butcher shop worthy of charging those prices is Dom's. There is zero comparison to their signature steak tips. However, I branched out recently and had their Hawaiian Cowboy tips and they were UNREAL. I won't go into detail, but if you know Dom's then there really isn't a debate.

Needless to say, WB will likely feel the kickback.

If you want Dom's steak tips in NH then go to Buckey's. Either order the steak tips there, or, my favorite is the steak tip sub in a hoagie with extra tips. I grew up a steak n cheese guy...die hard. Nothing better then good shaved steak n cheese (Boston, not Philly), however, Buckey's steak tip sub will hands down put any other steak n cheese sub to shame. Don't believe me? Prove me otherwise...and while you're at it, order it with chips because the chips they make there are just as good.

I agree, especially with the texture of their turkey tips; way too mushy. I also use the 1 gallon ziplock method. I love the Sweet Baby Rays Honey BB-Q sauce.

If you think that their steak tips are too expensive, check out their crab cakes which are very good but currently $34.99 a lb.

I love their chicken quesadillas.

Their crab cakes are the best I've had but wayyy too expensive! Will only buy one for myself, every once in a while. WB has excellent prepared food and their desserts are just phenomonal! Wish prices were slightly cheaper so I only go once in a while as a treat

We just picked up three packages of maple bourbon steak tips from McKinnon's at $10.49 per pound. While we have always liked the Wineing Butcher, we have found their steak tips vary in thickness whereas McKinnon's are much more uniform in size. When grilling WB steak tips often the center is done to my liking (medium rare), but an end may be much thinner and is well done.

We often get the Key West chicken which we really like. We also like the steak house tips, expensive yes but very good.
One thing that I like about the WB is consistency. If we have unexpected company we can get the items that we like and be assured of the same product.

Had steak tips from Hannaford in Meredith last week and we thought they were as good as WB and a better price at $8.99 a pound.

Agreed, have tried Hannaford marinated tips several times since this thread started. As good as or better than WB.
